I'll let people form their own opinions... just throwing this out there:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2007-08-28-sat-table_N.htm
but also, do look at the percentage of people taking the test... it's interesting... but some states also prefer the ACT... so it's hard to get a really good judge...
the NCLB stats would probably be a better indicator, since everyone has to take it... just saying
have some people ever been to red states? the south is not full of people who "have to go" to college... if it is, it's failing miserably
EDIT: uh... the link clearly states college grads voted 49/49 for Bush/Kerry? how is that proving anything?

Maybe because the blue states all depend on the government for their answers and so kids that don't really aspire to do anything just won't take the test. Besides you don't need the SAT's to be part of a union or work at a factory on an assembly line.
In red states college is not an option for most kids, they have to go. So everyone takes the test.
In blue states since the government is the answer there is really no reason to take the SAT's unless you want more for yourself. More than likely the kids taking the SAT's in blue states are kids whose parents vote red.

I have to admit to some disappointment that your posts are so based on political bigotry. As a democrat who believes in equality, I find this trend to be contemptible, regardless of who or what side is doing it.
I am familiar with what you are speaking about, regardless of the fact that you cite no sources, which is usually unwise.
Usually because they're rural and most of our rural areas require a great deal of farm assistance from laborers, many immigrants (of both kinds) from Mexico.
These poor people have to learn a whole new language, adapt to a whole new culture, and often take decades to even begin to assimilate.
Then add those who have to move back, or who move from farm to farm.
Where do their kids go to learn? How many of them have been at ONE school for two years in a row?
Of course their scores are lower. The most democrat-controlled areas in our country are the cities, in places like California and New York.
I would hope you aren't suggesting anything by it. Political bigotry isn't cool. But the fact is definitely worth bringing up. Keep speaking up. I'm a democrat. I support free speech for everyone.

In my view it's an irrelevent stat when you look at how people from big cities all have tattooes and piercings all over their faces and their genitals and how they all have their underwear on the outside of their pants and their pants hanging down off their bum cheeks and how they all MURDER eachother so willy nilly.
Yeah,what was the stat again?
Yeah,right...lmao!
How come white kids from the city all look like inbred meth addicted carnie employees would be a better question to have asked. Remember hair metal and how they all had mullets and did meth?

Tests make an attempt represent the testers knowledge, not intelligence.
But I think you're question is too general to be valid. Red States cover a very wide area.
But my state has the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, one of the best in the country. All thanks to a Southern Democratic General Assembly and Democratic ex-governor Jim Hunt.
Not to mention many Red states have top notch colleges and universities.
