An algebraic expression is a writing that uses numbers, variables, and possibly operations on those variables. So "45", "3x", and "5y + x^2" are all expressions. Something like "3x + 2 = 1" isn't really an expression but an equation.

An expression is a collection of terms made up of numbers, symbols, letters, etc linke together by operators such as +, - * , /, ( ) , exponents ,etc which indicate some value.

3x^2 +sqrt((x-1)/(x+1))+ b^x is a simple expression

An expression cannot be answered with a definite number (unless with substitution), and it doesn't have an equal sign .
Ex: 2x+ x +y
Is an expression.

2x+x+y=0
Is an equation
