I am currently training for my soon to be career. Everyone tells me I'm so lucky to know what I want, and even be able to do what I want, while most people can only dream about it.

I, on the other hand, feel like my life is a constant struggle in order to reach goals that I set years ahead of myself, and by the time I reach one, I have the next one waiting one or two years ahead of me, hence never really feel satisfied, even though I might accomplish all my goals one by one. Whenever I take one big step ahead, I can't stop thinking that my next goal is waiting, and there is no time to celebrate.

Sometimes I feel like people who just live for the day feel more content. Even though they might not accomplish as much in life, but they are happier. This has been bothering me for a while now. What do you all think?

Your achievments are only as good as your ability to enjoy what they bring you. If you have your bases covered -- the basics plus enough left over to travel, buy season tickets, support charitable causes, or whatever it is that floats your boat -- then you're trying to prove something to someone...and the only person you need to impress is yourself. Relax.
BTW - the people who live day-to-day end up struggling in later years. They're the folks who can't pay for medical treatments, who have to eat dog food, who spend holidays in the homeless shelter.

I think you need to start taking a bit of 'time out' when you reach a goal that you've set for yourself. Pat yourself on the back, take a long weekend off somewhere, stay drunk and party for a couple of days, whatever you do to celebrate someting good.
The get back to it and accomplish the next goal you've set.
No matter how much people tell you that reaching a self-set goal is its own reward, that's bull s.h.i.t. You need a bit more than that to feel good about it.

Magic Lamp is a book to read on setting goals.
It's a good thing to set goals my friend but make them flexible. Short term goals you can accomplish and feel great about getting them done. Long term goals for the future that can be adjustable. Driving on highways I learned to live for the day...because tommorrow could be your last. Give what you can to make yourself and the world be better. Contentment and accomplishment and self worth are important and so is respect. Seems we are losing more and more respect for each other. You are doing fine. Just don't over do...read the Magic Lamp book.

It is human nature to set goals for ourselves. That's just what we do. We need something to keep us busy. I've found that a balanced mix of long term plans and living for the day works well. You keep your day to day life happy but at the same time you know you want more for yourself in the future.

I think it is great to make long term plans for yourself so you have something to motivate you daily. But, it is always important to have short term plans that keep you grounded in the now. Remember that tomorrow is never promised to come, all you truly have is now, so do something to make this day worth living if it were your last...but always have something for your tomorrow for when it does come. Then you will feel content each day, but satsfied when you reach your future goals.

Why not do both? If you're smart you can 'live in the moment' without sacrificing your future. Don't live for the future but don't paint yourself into a corner either.

Blend the two, throw out the bad and keep the good. Than you will have the best of both.
