It doesn't matter at if you eat spicy food - it cannot affect a baby's personality or nervous system. The spiciness in food affects your mouth and your tummy - after that it is absorbed and does not pass to the placenta. Baby just gets the nutrients and calories.
Just think of all the hot food that Thai and Hindu women eat, yet they have babies of all different types and temperaments. I eat spicy food with all my pregnancies and I've had two children with very mild and laid back personalities.
The only negative affects it might have in pregnancy is giving you heartburn or gas, but I'm like you - bring it on because I love spicy stuff. LOL
During this pregnancy I have been addicted to Fiery Habanero Doritos and I've been craving hot Thai food and spicy Mexican dishes.

No, that is not true. The only thing that will make your child a nervous wreck is if you are a nervous wreck.
I ate spicy food when i was pregnant and my daughter was extremely relaxed and calm in and out of the womb. she is now 16 months old and the most placid and contented child I have ever come across and I have 6 nieces and nephews.
Seriously, I am not meaning to berate your sister but tell her to back off and read up on facts and not bother you with old wives tales. A happy and contented mother gives for a mostly happy and contented baby.
Your child will get some of the flavour of your food in the amniotic fluid and it can sometimes give it the hiccups. Just contine to eat as you would normally.
Saying that, When baby is born and if your intend to breastfeed you might have to watch what you eat as it might give baby excess gas.
All the best and enjoy this amazing experience :0)

I don't want to encourage smoking while pregnant. But I will give you the honest truth with my situation. I became pregnant.... and it was a surprise. I had always vowed to myself that I would quite smoking before my husband and I ever tried to conceive a child. Well...... that didn't happen. I was a smoker.... and pregnant. I cut done considerably though. I smoked a pack a day before pregnancy..... and I cut down to about 5 cigs a week. Some days I wouldn't smoke at all..... some days I would smoke 2- 3..... and then feel guilty and go without smoking for a few days. I smoked up until the day I had my baby. I went 2 weeks overdue.... and had a healthy baby boy.... weighing 8 lbs 2 oz..... and 21 1/2 inches long. After a long labor.... with many complications.... and being on medication and antibiotic...... he still scored a 9 on the apagar score right away.... and a 10 @ 5 minutes after birth. He is perfectly healthy and has never had so much as a sniffle. He is know 7 months old and 20 lbs. the funny thing was.... when I was in the hospital getting ready to be induced.... my nurse was checking my lungs and breathing..... and she said.... ahhhh.... good healhty lungs..... I bet your not a smoker... huh...... and then I stated.... well actually yes...... I have been smoking for 8 years.... she couldn't believe it. I wouldn't recommend smoking alot during pregnancy.... nor would I say it is a good thing to do. I don't know.... maybe I got lucky..... but you asked for our personal experiences with smoking and i gave you the honest truth...... And to any haters out there...... I don't care if you give me thumbs down...... because I answered the question that was asked honestly and truthfully!

Think of all the women in Thailand who eat Thai food daily. Obviously all thai children are not nervous, so no, spicy food isn't going to affect your baby negatively. Plenty of countries in the world eat tons of spicy food as part of their regular diet and all those children turn out fine.
I have heard of people who ate a lot of spicy food during pregnancy having young children (2-3 years old) who enjoy spicy food, where as most young kids can't stand it.

Nervous, no. Their cognitive ability is not yet developed, so there's no harm in eating spicy foods. If there was, then you'd see the population in places like Thailand and India have increased blood pressure statistics! Whenever I ate spicy food, it did increase my baby's activity. However, when my friend ate spicy food all the time, and I think her baby was so used to it, that it never phased it. Now, her toddler has no problem eating spicy foods!

Are people in India, Thailand, etc emotional wrecks?
Actually in those cultures babies tend to cry less than in North America.
Seriously find a woman from a culture that eats spicy food and ask if they change their diet during pregnancy?

Yes, in general. There are many cultures who regularly eat spicy foods and strong-flavored foods, and there is no evidence that a greater percentage of these babies are fussy, gassy, or have other problems with the foods their moms eat.

I think that's just and old wives tale. Definitely don't eat the spicy food if it doesn't agree with you but if you have a kid like mine it loves it and the sweet stuff is what gives me heartburn like lemonade or chocolate.

I have never heard of that before and it doesn't make any sence. what will most likely happen is that the baby will like spicy foods, and that is it. It will not harm the baby. just tell your sister to claim down.
good luck
