2 cycle uses oil and gas mixture and has a compression stroke and ignition.
4 cycle uses gasoline and has 4 strokes to the piston, intake, compression, power, exhaust.

4 cylinder engine has 4 pistons a 4 cycle engine fires once for every 4 revolutions of the crank shaft and yes there are 4 cylinder 2 cycle motorcycle engines and some diesels google 4 cycle and 2 cycle look for the how stuff works you havent a clue what your talking about a 1.8liter is the capacity in a 1.8 motor not 7.2

being a marine mechanic the answer would be that a 2 cycle engine will fire every time the piston comes up to top dead center crating a power stoke a 4 cycle will only create a power stoke every other time the piston rises to tdc if you are wondering on boat outboards if the oil goes directly in to the engine it is a 4 cycle if it goes in to a separate tank weather it is on the engine or in the boat it is a 2 cycle.
a 2 cycle will generally produce a faster whole shot due to less weight and less work to produce the same horsepower but the down side is more fuel is being used in a carberated model. But in a direct fuel injection 2 stroke you end up with a more fuel efficient motor than the exact same horse power of a four stroke

If by ' cycle' you mean 'stroke'.. as in 2 stroke and 4 stroke. In a four stroke engine, every time the piston goes up and down, it does something, like suck in gas through the open inlet valve. Next time it goes up it compresses the gas and ignites it sending the piston round again to force the gasses out of the exhaust valve and so on and on. This type of engine is a four stroke engine because the complete cycle consists of 4 operations or cycles. In a two stroke, the complete cycle is done in only 2 strokes of the piston because it is a different design and does not have conventional valves which open and shut. 2 stroke fuel is a mixture of petrol and oil. Two stroke engines tend to be higher revving, more smokey and have a distinctive sound like a mosquito with a hot poker up its bum. Whether 2 or 4 stroke, the piston runs in a cyclinder. So one piston in the engine is a single cyclinder engine, 2 cyclinders is a twin, 3 cylinders is a triple, four can be a four in line or a Vee four and so on. Then there is aircraft Radial engines where the pistons are arranged geometrically round a central hub or shaft. Then there is the Wankel or rotary engine, but that is a different animal. Cylinders can also have different orientations. A BMW 'Airhead' is a four stroke horizontally opposed twin. ( known as the Boxer engine) Most Harleys are a four stroke Vee twin. Many bikes are four or two stroke singles. Triumph make a nice Triple. An old European Car maker called DKW once had a car with a three cylinder , two stroke engine. Many model aircraft are powered with little minature deisel or 'glowplug' engines which are basically two stroke. Combustion capacity is measured in cubic centimetres (cc) or Litres. If therefore, a four cyclinder engine had 500cc combustion capacity in each cyclinder, the total capacity of that engine is 2000cc ( or2 litre) By some strange convention, we tend to refer to car and boat engines in terms of Litres and bike engines in terms of cc. A 1200cc BMW bike has the same capacity as a little 1.2 liter compact car. Thats about it buddy.

A two cycle motor fires each time the piston is at top dead center. As the piston travels down the cylinder an exhaust port opens allowing the exhaust gasses to escape. At the same instant the pressure of the piston moving down the cylinder forces the fresh oil /gas mixture into the intake ports on the sides of the cylinder ports that are connected to the lower crankcase.
A two cycle motor has a series of ports on each 90 degree angle side of the cylinder side which force the incomming charge of gas air to the combustion chember as the piston is on it's way down from the previous fireing stroke.
From a special diaphragm carbeurator which operates at any angle the incoming air fuel can enter the crankcase in either a piston ported passage or a reed valve that sences vacuum in the crankcase.

a 2 cycle engine runs on a gas oil mix as the engine itself has no oil in it ( oil mix is different for all engines). a 4 cycle engine runs on straight gas and the engine has oil in just like your car does
