the bible also says that disobedient children are to be taken out into the street and stoned to death. just goes to show how much crap that book has in it.
darn two thumbs down to me? its not my fault Christan's choose to only follow certain parts of the bible and completely disregard the rest. people just cant admit it, that is a crazy book. go ahead and look up what would happen if you didn't get circumcised in those days. Its complete violence. or maybe you could read Exodus chapter 11.....
SO basically if you want to shot someone just make sure you scream "IN THE NAME OF GOD" just before you pull the trigger. then its ok to kill.

The Ten Commandments were meant to show Israel how to live a holy life. For today's Christian, it is meant to show how far they miss the standard...and how much they need a savior. The commandments were never meant as a solution to get to heaven...but a way to acknowledge that they are not perfect (and hence, needing the help of the One who is perfect.) It isn't following rules or being a perfect person that makes one a Christian.
Murder and killing are not necessarily the same, the latter possibly falling under 'self-defense'...but not all Christians agree with that and may elect to 'turn the other cheek'. If it were me, I would probably do whatever it takes to protect my family.
I'm no expert in Hebrew history, but at the same time as when the 10 commandments were given, there were laws that allowed Israel to put individuals to death (which is not the same as murdering)...but this was extreme. A lot of their laws were actually designed to reintegrate the felon back into relationships and society. In many cases, they laws were designed to bring reconciliation between the perpetrator and the victim...to the point of being friends (or at least civil neighbors).

Okay let's try this for everyone. Anyone read the original text of the bible before the translations. Some things are extremely hard to directly translate from one language to another. Next just because you have a gun does not mean you are going to kill someone with it. I have lots of weapons in my home, know how to use all of them and have never even pointed one at another human being. I believe in Christ. I try to live by the laws of the US. Sorry I was born with a lead foot. I have not been able to find a Dr. that was willing to surgically fix that for me.
I have a very bad switch when it comes to my kids, hurt them and I might hurt you. But I won't kill you unless I think it will keep you from killing or raping them. I am willing to take my chances with God when it comes to keeping my children alive and safe.
I will not willing give up my right to free speech, my right to bear arms or my right to a choice when it comes to abortion. I have a really funny view of things. Leave me alone and I will leave you alone. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. I also will chase you down if I see you steal something and make you give it back. I won't shoot you to accomplish this. I will give you a lecture and make you feel like sh_t. I will get upset if you break into my house and I will probably kick your butt. I will most definitely call the police.
Now to end this it is self defense not murder.

Seems like you are fishing for a "because they are hypocrites" answer.
You should probably read more of the Bible to find your answer.
The Israelites were commanded to kill people all the time. They were told to clean out the land of Canaan, for example.
The real answer might be that murder is simply different than killing. There are a ton of legal definitions out there with different gradations of what is considered murder or manslaughter. But I think that a normal, reasonable person will be able to tell the difference between a carefully planned murder and defending one's own life against imminent harm.
Perhaps the next time a burglar is in your house, you can explain your view on refusing to defend yourself and that he is free to take anything in the house including your life and your virtue. Then you can be comforted in your refusal to break one commandment while your new house guest breaks several.

To murder and to kill are not the same. Merriam-Webster online defines murder as 1 : the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought
and to kill as 1 a : to deprive of life : cause the death of b (1) : to slaughter (as a hog) for food (2) : to convert a food animal into (a kind of meat) by slaughtering
In more than one place in the Bible the 12 tribes were told by God to conquer a land and kill EVERYTHING in that that land. The Bible also tells us that we are to take care of our family.
Most translations of the Bible agree that the commandment is not to murder.
I don't think most Christians would intentionally take the life of someone who only wanted their money. But for someone that would come into my home and try to murder or rape my child....better for him to have a grindstone tied to his neck and be thrown into the sea.

unquestionably.... there's an excellent distinction between the Kill, and homicide. in case you have been greater conscious of the Bible... you may understand there became a "lotta killin' occurring... " by way of the Jews while they reached the promised land. And... my I factor out, there are people who very own weapons who're no longer Christians, and Christians who do no longer very own weapons.... So a query for you: who're you attempting to degrade? Christians, gun proprietors or the two? you will probable never choose a gun your total existence. yet... interior the unlikely subject which you DO choose one... there is not any exchange. heat regards, Douglas

Capital Punishment
Genesis 9:6
Whoso sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed:
for in the image of God made he man.
If a burglar or a killer or a liar comes into a man's home to harm him or his family, the man has every right to shoot the person.
No one has the time to ask the person who is in their home without an invitation - Are you here to rob me? Or are you here to kill me? Let me know so I'll know whether to shoot you or not.
If a person is in your home uninvited without your knowledge, he does not mean good things toward you or your family.
The hardest thing to do is to shoot another human being, but if my children or grandchildren could be harmed, I would shoot and think nothing of killing a man in self defense.
No where in the Bible does it tell a man not to protect his family. On the contrary if he doesn't take care of his family he is worse than an infidel. 1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
God plans on a man taking care of his family. These men running scott free and not taking care of their children will answer to the Lord.
Read the Bible, because your statement is wrong.

If a unarmed burglar breaks into my house he will wish i had shot him.
If the burglar is armed it is not murder as he committed suicide by being armed.
It is not that he was going to rob me but that he does not need a weapon if you are just going to rob some one.
If a burglar is armed i have no reason to believe he is just going to rob me
My only belief is that the weapon is to kill me.
and as a EMT i have been to more then a few homes to pick up homeowner that were shot by armed burglars.
I LIKE MORE TO PICK UP BURGLARS SHOT BY HOMEOWNERS IT IS FUN TO MAKE SURE THEY HURT ALL THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL.
IF THE BURGLAR IS YOUR KID I WILL NOT FEEL BAD.
FOR YOU IF YOU DO NOT TEACH YOUR KIDS RIGHT FROM WRONG THEN SOMEONE ELSE WILL.

What is expected of the religious follower is that they will not kill(even in self defense), and they will rely on God to send them to heaven when and if they die.
I believe a book was written on a girl who was killed in the Columbine shooting. I think it was called "She said Yes", because when asked if she believed in God by a boy with a gun, she said yes, and then she was shot.

That's a good point, but so is capital punishment/death penalty. The judge only sentences the person, but the actual person who pulls the switch, or gives the injection is commiting murder. And he knows it, that's why he wears a face cover.
It's all hypocritical!!!

You need more reading on the term murder and kill...and the bible and the punishments that God permits.
I have 2 weapons in the home and I have used them on someone who broke in..to do what..I was not going to wait..especially when I have my family to protect....and if that is wrong then I would be willing to go to hell to keep my family safe.
