I have a whole bunch of clothes I stuck in garbage bags since we're staying in the same city. It's just overwhelming -- I have a bunch of janky hangers, pants and shirts my husband no longer likes/fits, summery type stuff, etc. etc. It's just overwhelming. Where do I start? Should I just buy all new hangers so they all match and hang the same? Luckily in our new place, there are 4 walk-in closets. I don't want things scattered, yet I don't want to keep clothes we're not going to wear anytime soon.
Also, I have boxes of Christmas cards dating back as early as 1995. I'm not much of a packrat, but what to do with Christmas cards/old pen pal letters from the 90s? The last thing I want to do is add clutter to our brand new home.
Not to mention, I have pictures dating back from 2002 that need to be in albums! What's a quick way to organize these and stick them in?
Thanks!!!
Miss Clutterbug

Go through a bag or two each day. Fold the ones you don't want and put back in the bag. Launder and hang the things you want to keep. When you are done going through all the bags, take the things you don't want to Goodwill. As for the cards go through them and pick out the ones you like the most and either put them in a scrap book or photo album. Good luck!:)
Just take your time and don't overwhelm your self thinking it has to be done all in one day.

The last thing you want to do is get overwhelmed! Start with one box or garbage bag and dedicate a whole day to each one. If the clothes you find are old, moth-ridden, don't fit, or anything else, you can do one of two things:
- If the clothes are in good condition, donate them. Its for a good cause and much better than having clutter in you new home!
- If the clothes are beyond repair, stained, or mangled, throw rthem away and use them for scrap cloth.
Find lots of thick photo albums and store your pictures in them. To reduce clutter, put them on the top shelf of a closet.
I do reccomend buying new hangers. Also, with the cards and other items, turn some of the prettier cards into postcards. After all else, store extra items in big plastic bins and store those in the garage.

Clothes that have been in bags that you no longer wear or are outdated need to be sent to the Salvation Army or Goodwill. List the items and get a receipt for your taxes. Old Christmas cards and others need to be tossed. Old pictures can be organized in albums or you can take them to a Ritz Camera, work on their computer and put them on CD discs. The sales people there will help you. You can fit a lot of old photos on a disc and de-clutter your space leaving more room for more important storage items.

Pack the off season clothes in large plastic bins, Do get more hangers, I like to have sweater hangers and plastic. Turn your old x-mas cards into postcards, the ones where the writing is not on the back of the front.Send them out this year, postcards are cheaper to send than cards. Buy the shoebox looking boxes they make for photos and dvds and keep the pictures in there till you have time to put in albums.

eow!@ keep it simple. open one garbage bag at a time. make a pile of stuff to get rid of and stuff to keep. go through every bag doing the same. then, donate the things you don't want. wash and organize the things you do want. hangers don't have to match each other.
christmas cards, toss, etc with all that stuff. when you die, your kids won't care about those things. you may want to keep cards from parents/grandparents/kids who moved out on their own.
get some shoe boxes, sort pictures according to who/what/when. or sort according to ages of kids. after all are sorted, get some albums and get busy! good luck with your organization.

get rid of the Christmas cards and accompanying pics- throw them out. Yes, you can!
sort clothes. if no one has wore it in a year give it away to a thrift shop. then sort summer and winter. Hang winter clothes. Wash, fold and box summer clothes. Or if you have room, hang them elsewhere
Picutres- sort but years. Put in picutrre envelopes or albums. Stoe in waterproof plastic shoeboxes. List the dates on the outside of the boxes.
throw away as much as you can for everything. You don't want it or need it. good luck
no timr for spell check, sorry
