My bf and I are talking about babies because we're planning to get married soon. But I was wondering what the likely hood of us having a baby with his light green colored eyes. I have brown eyes and everyone in my family does to. His eyes are like a light green and i believe green and blue eyes run on his side of the family.
I was hoping that we would have a baby girl with my asian complexion and his green eyes. Cause it would be like the cutest thing in my opinion.
Anyone know the possibility of that happening? I totally forgot how to do that square thing from biology class! ^_^;;
Thanks!

Well from wikipedia or whatever it says that green eyes are co-dominated. Which I found weird. And I asked the genetic counselor who works at the hospital that I am doing my internship at and she is said it was to. So if Green is go dominate and brown is too, what happens there? O_O?

There's about a one in five (20%) chance, I believe (if I'm remembering my biology / genetics classes) of your children getting the father's recessive genes to produce a green-eyed child between the two of you. These odds go up if there's been any people in your family line who also had light colored eyes (it *does* happen in very rare instances amongst asians).
It **can** happen - but it's rare at best.

Its not as simple as we were all taught. I think a little girl with an Asian complexion with green eyes would also be adorable! You have about a 50/50 chance for a girl. Your baby is most likely going to have a Asian complexion, but the eyes are up in the air.

If you are Asian it is unlikely you carry the recessive gene for blue or green eyes (but not impossible if you have somebody with light eyes anywhere in your direct family line) You would both have to carry the recessive gene to pass it on as the brown eye gene, being dominant, will overpower lighter eye genes if it is the one passed on.
If the father has light eyes he will ONLY pass on the light eyed gene. If you do carry the light eyed gene (again, unlikely but not impossible) you have a 50/50 chance of having a light eyed baby.

well like you said, since both are co-dominant, the possibilities would be either Brown Brown, Green Green, or Brown Green.

Yes it's possible. My baby has blue eyes like my husband and I have olive skin tone with dark brown eyes. So yeah I guess it could happen.

well, there's a slight chance. but very slim. i believe brown eyes are dominant over green. and green is rare as it is. so, maybe. but it's a pretty slim chance.

Apparently, if your dark eyes come from combination
brown-blue and
green-blue
genes.

i would say pretty slim, since darker colors tend to be more dominant.
