mind over matter?
does it work and how to do it

The human brain is the most powerful tool we have at our disposal. And still the average human uses only up to 5% of their brain power.

Perhaps there is much more that we have yet to discover about ourselves. Our brain may hold functions over our body like curing disease and other such problems. Perhaps even more like telepathy or telekinesis.

But these are no better that hypothesis.
So yes, mind over matter.

Practicing something like this takes focus and a lot of it.

Depends in what situation....

If i convince myself i can fly and run off a cliff fully believing that, not only will i be locked up in an institution, but i will NOT fly.
In that type of thing, mind over matter doesn't work.

However, as a child.. a friend of mine used to make herself sick to avoid school. She would convince herself she was sick (had a cold) and would keep telling herself that.. Sure enough, not long later.. she had the symptoms of a cold.
(I am not telling you to do this!!)

Another example of that, but at a subconscious level is when i was younger. I was scared to go to school. I didn't tell myself to get sick, but every monday i would have a stomach ache and would go home. When i got home, i started feeling better and was fine.
(Eventually my teacher got so used to it that she decided to tease me every monday about having "Monday-itis". This was, i honestly felt sick.)

One a completely different type of "mind over matter"...
The way you think (mind) about a situation (matter) can vastly change your perception of the situation, and therefor your "reality". (You're values/background/experience/etc will influence your thinking)

Personally, i believe in the placebo effect. But i think some people are more "susceptible" to it than others.
Other however, may also fake a placebo.

Your mind is what controls it all. If you can train your mind not to concentrate on the pain, for example, and focus on whatever it is you are trying to overcome that it should work, over a long period of time. I'm not sure if we could really do anything but train our brain to react differently to our environment, at least this far in our evolution. Our body is in a constant struggle to survive, to hown in on one skill is to sacrifice our control of another.

This is my answer to another question in physics about String Theory and the law of attraction, but it fits here I think.

If everything is ultimately vibrating strings of energy, and what is seen on the macroscopic level is merely created by differing frequencies of those vibrations, then there isn't actually any matter. Only energy. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, but it can change form. If we can somehow change the vibration with our minds, we can change reality. Or, perhaps we (conscious minds) are constantly doing this all the time. It is already known in quantum physics, that the expectations of the investigators can influence the outcome of the experiment. Perhaps this is also true on the macroscopic level, but harder to see because it is an uncontrolled environment with at least 5 billion minds affecting it.

Also, on the quantum level, things don't exist in a set position - but rather in a state of probablity until we "notice" them. Therefore our expectations are affecting reality on the quantum level all the time. On top of that, what we see and interpret as matter is actually just one form of energy (sunlight) bouncing off another being interpreted by our brains as solid. Everything is actually mostly space. Relatively, there is almost as much space in a human body as there is in outer space. So everything we see and feel is merely an interpretation by our brains. It doesn't actually exist as we experience it. So, change your mind, change your reality.

when thoughts become action then yes mind over matter is possible. If your question refers to quantum physics ... i am still unsure, but I can give you a name of a program to watch " what the bleep do we know" this program will help you

Your mind is in control of your body, not anything else.
Mind over matter if at all possible would only manipulate subconscious systems of the your body bringing attention more to the forefront. Similar to taking the airplane off of autopilot and flying by the seat of your pants as they say,

Don't believe the kooks here saying we only use 5 or 10 percent of our brains. That was a false study in the 60s that's since been disproven.

there is a joke on this, I hope you don't mind. the answer is
what is mind ?. . . . it is a matter
what is matter ?. . . . . never mind

Many people claim it works, however not one single person has ever been able to demonstrate it. What does that tell you?

It works only to the extent that a person who believes they can accomplish a task will tend to approach it with more confidence, thus being more enthusiastic and determined and perhaps generating more adrenaline, and therefore likely to actually do what he set out to do. That has nothing to do with any kind of psychokinetic powers, however, only psychology and physiology.
