Blew himself up? Yeah, he dropped a live grenade and then reached down to pick it up. Boom! Just about what you would expect out of a Liberal war hero. Fits right in with Kerry's purple hearts.
Oh, by the way, Cleland freely admits that he caused the accident which injured him, at least he seems to be honest, more than I can say for most Democrats.

Max is a pervert too. He likes to talk nasty to women. Well, most Democrats just talk nasty to Republicans, so I guess Max is still better than most Democrats, but that is not saying much.

Brian de dog: I served 4 years and 10 months on active duty in the US Marine Corps. I served from 1961 into 1966. I was honorably discharged at the conclusion of my 8 year military obligation.
I went everywhere the Marine Corps chose to send me. I volunteered for the invasion force to invade Cuba, but we didn't go.
I voluntarily extended my enlistment for 6 months and then I was involuntarily extended for 4 months because of Vietnam. I have handled live grenades plus other munitions and didn't harm anyone.
I was fortunate, the Marine Corps never told me to go to Vietnam, otherwise I would have gone.

My disgust for Max Cleland comes from his political life, not his military one. The question was motivated by seeing posts to other questions bragging on Max. At least he went to war rather than run to Canada. But, no, he never jumped on a grenade to save his buddies, he just screwed up.

I expect George W. Bush was allowed into the Guard and given a nice cushy assignment because of politics. I know lots of people that joined the reserves in an attempt to avoid Vietnam. It worked for many, others fled to Canada. That is ok, too, but they should never have been allowed to return.

I hadn't heard about this, but it does not surprise me. Kudos to Cleland for his honesty! You are right: it fits the Democrats policies! No one I know of admires Kerry and his phony hero stuff.
This the problem with the VA; military people who get drunk, crash their motorcycle, blow themselves up, whatever, get better treatment than those who become disabled while on duty, obeying orders.

Max Cleland did that to save the lives of his buddies. Kerry saved his crew too. One should never question the war heroes. Those who claim to love our military men and women so much have the least to talk about in this manner. They should worship the ground they walk upon. They were in combat and a certain Texas National Guard Pilot who never left the States, who shall remain nameless at this point, was not. Who were the bigger heroes?

No, I didn't know.
Glad you are keeping us informed.
Hope it doesn't lead to political bigotry in your heart, but still allows you to speak up about what you believe in.
I am a democrat. I encourage you to. I believe in free speech and would like you to add to the dialog.
There are many good things that the Democratic party have done. I hope people aren't blinded by our recent errors. Some of us are strong patriots, who put our country ahead of our political party, though we might disagree with how to do it. I am not a political bigot. I'm grateful we have republicans (people interested in subjects I am not) to run that part of the country. We need brakes and gas no matter what direction we head.
Regardless, keep speaking up. You know now another (There are a lot of us) democrat who is honest. I assume you are the same (until you prove otherwise).
There's another one just recently that turned up fake. I forget the name, but he claimed a whole bunch of atrocities were occurring in Iraq, and it turns out he never went, and was dropped out of boot camp! Good to have the truth come out, regardless. Wouldn't want to associate with such a liar, regardless of his position.

No matter what this guy says, thank you all veterans, active duty and families.
You need to serve before you get the right to bad mouth vets, son.
Freedom of speech stops in my book when you start attacking anybody that did something you are to much of a wuss to do. It is called SERVE as in selective service. It is the law, did you register. I am not pro liberal, dem., or rep., I vote, I served and I blocked your questions.

Yes, but at least he went to Vietnam. Did Bush? Did Rush Limbaugh? Did Saxby Chambliss? What about Newt Gingrich? No, the neocons don't enlist, they just support wars that they don't actually participate in.

You are a real low life, aren't you? I suppose you would have mocked FDR for being a crip as well, since he was a liberal Democrat. Your partisan garbage is why the American people will reject the Republicans and elect the Democrats big time next year. Keep it up.
