there should be no bans on any firearm weapons. period.
once someone passes a background check. they should be able to purchase any firearm. The assult weapons ban was illigal, immoral, and not defined in the 2nd ammendant.
There is no proff the bad guys use these more than any other type firearm they can get their hands on. In fact, they use whatever they can.

Machine guns aren't assault weapons because the definition of a machine gun is they are a base of fire weapon and are full-auto. The M-2 .50 Caliber machine gun is too big to assault a position.
The assault weapon is a select fire weapon meaning it has the ability to be fired semi-auto, three round burst, and full-auto. The current version of the M-16 is only capable of the three round and semi-auto burst.
A semi-auto rifle is not an assault weapon. Politicians can't change the definition of an item when the creator or discoverer named something. For instance, a politician can't change the name of a match to a lightbulb just because they think it will scare the populace.
Lastly, no machine gun or assault weapon was banned under the "assault weapons ban of 1994." While they still fell under the Nation Firearms Act of 1934, if a person was willing to have the government to invade their privacy in such a way that makes the NSA phone captures look like getting carded at a bar it could (and still can be) done.

They don't argue that machine guns aren't assault weapons. They simply point out that all semi-automatic rifles are not assault weapons.
A machine gun is a fully automatic rifle. It automatically and repeatly fires, ejects, and reloads rounds as long as you hold the trigger back.
A semi-automatic rifle or handgun will fire, eject, and reload once every time you pull the trigger. holding the trigger back will not cause repeated firing.
An assault weapon is a small semi-auto or fully auto rifle with a short barrel designed primarily of close range urban combat. These are usually small enough to be concealed under a coat or jacket.
Technically not all machine guns qualify as assault weapons. many are simply too big to conceal. The same is true for semi-auto rifles designed for hunting. Look at a gun catalog to see the difference.
Gun bans simply don't prevent gun related crimes. New York City and Washington DC both prohibit private ownership of small arms. Miami, on the other hand encourages it. Look up the per capita crime stats in these cities, and compare

It takes a class 3 license to own a full automatic weapon and that is considered a ban. In order to get a class 3 license, you have to go through a serious background check by the FBI and ATF and then, only then can you buy a full auto weapon. If you have a class 3, it gives the government the right to check on you any time they feel it's necessary, any time of the day or night.
Besides that, I can fire ANY semi auto rifle full automatic. I've done this on many occasions and I even impressed a state trooper with my ability. Guess that says a lot for the Marines whom taught me a lot when I was in the Corps.

a tank ripping bullet shooter? what the heck have you been smoking?
There is no need to "ban" machineguns, because all class 3 firearms ( those that fire fully automatic) are already controlled. In order for a law abiding citizen to own one, they must go thru a very extensive background investigation which can take up to a year to complete, then, they have to live in a state where they are allowed, then they have to pay an additional $200.00 to get the federal tax stamp which will allow them to own one class 3 firearm. They must do this each time they wish to purchase one. In addition, the owner is randomly inspected by the ATF who can arrive at their home at any time and demand to see the firearm. Further, you have to have the firearm in a safe or other secure facility and the tax stamp and paperwork must be with the firearm at all times. If the person commits any crime, they will lose their right to own a firearm and will never be alllowed to own another class 3 weapon. As for banning any weapons, a collector or private citizen cannot own a class 3 weapon, or an explosive type weapon or a tank etc without being investigated and approved first. As for handguns, rifles shotguns etc, We have little things called the "bill of rights", a "constitution" etc that guarantee us the right, for every law abiding citizen to own one, or even several, firearms if they so choose. Remember this, no country who's citizens own firearms, has ever been conquered. Nut cases like hitler and several modern day dictators, first restrict and ban firearms before they can conquer another nation/state. No one feels that "everyone" should own bazookas or tanks etc, but if you are a serious collector, you have the money to afford them, the facilities to secure them, a place to use them, you are a law abiding citizen in good standing, you can pass the background checks, then why not?
It's not the law abiding who cause crime, it's the criminals who do. Criminals also fear armed law abiding citizens. That's why countries and states with the harshest and most restrictive firearms bans, have the higest rates of violent crime, and the ones with armed citizens have the lowest. I do admit that according to the latest FBI statistics in America, murder rates are up 1.9% for the first time in a decade. BUT, they dropped to all time lows when states started issuing concealed weapons permits to law abiding citizens. And, the 1.9% rise in murder (mostly gang and drug related criminals killing each other) was accompanied by lower rapes and other crimes against persons. Also, the rates are lower in america than any country with strict gun control, like the UK, australia, canada etc which experienced a huge upsurge in violent crime with each bit of legislature that banned or restricted firearms ownership.
I apoligize for being a little passionate about the right for law abiding people to own firearms. But this country was founded by those who believed the same way, fought and died to preserve that right and I can do no less than defend that right myself in honor of them, and to guarantee the freedoms for my children and grandchildren

the assault weapon idea, Ive never heard, but many do believe they should be allowed to have grenade launchers, a tank doesn't qualify as a gun its a vehicle and therefore could technically be banned. Most people in America simply believe that people should be allowed to weapons to defend themselves from others, and perhaps even the government itself... it happened once could happen again.

I think americans would argue a handgun isnt a handgun if they thought handguns were going to be made illegal.
However I do believe there is some difference. The law in the US (which banned assualt rifles) had a difference that showed the difference between assault rifle and an automatic weapon. So because a Tech-9 or Uzi doesn't have attachments for a grenade launcher, bayonet or flash suppressor, they aren't considered assault rifles.

Did any weapons laws prevent the Virginia Tech shootings? The laws only prevented law abiding citizens from having the means to stop him.

You sound like an anti-gun nutcase. A butter knife can be used as an assault weapon. Are you planning to take all the butter knives away from everyone so they don't hurt anyone?

People who want gun control are flat out evil and should be shot so that millions of lives can be saved. Thank God that Hitler had a gun to shoot himself with.
