iknow that queer means gay and icant understand the whole sentence queer as folk plzz help

I am gay/bi and never understood that either....... And yes I watched it all seasons.....

I thought they tittled it that just to sound different.....

It used to mean that people do odd things. Then the term Queer was applied to homosexual men and they homosexual men decided to give ourselves a name and Gay was chosen and accepted. But that's the origin of the term. I like the series too.

Queer did not always mean gay.
It once held the meaning of "odd".
The expression comes from old days.
Referring to one as "queer as folk", compares one with country people, in old days. Usually in reference to "old folk" expressions or actions.

Thought to have Germanic origins the Folk roughly means "our people" or "of the people" so it means gays as our people roughly lol. However, it could also be Latin from the word "vulgus" meaning "the common people". So it could mean gays as common people which is the most likely case
