I wrap the outside water pipes and faucets, clean the gutters so when the rains come it won't be clogged up, I change the filter in the central heater and clean the inside out with the wet vac, I get the propane company to come light the pilot on the space heater and make sure it is ok, I dig out my sweats, sweaters, and knee socks and leg warmers, my coats are in my closet so they are ready, and get my flu shot, that's about it.

Block up the catflap ( it causes a draft - they know how to knock at the window anyway !), buy in the feed for the horses, start buying deicer before everyone sells out of it and get some antifreeze in the car.

since i generally work nine months of the year, NOW is when i begin pre-paying my winter bills to have nothing come due til middle spring - satellite, insurance, phone, etc. toward the end of my season i get non-perishable foods stocked, propane, enough kerosene to last for emergency needs.
it's time to check for any home repairs that need to be done, especially those that might reduce the heating costs ( i have 3 projects in mind in that vein).
i have to get the maintainence done on all 5 vehicles, that is those i do for myself.
in mid-November, i'll shop for close-outs on 2 new commercial 4 foot mowers.

get out winter clothes, change oil in truck to a lighter grade, check antifreeze with a tester, put a blanket behind truck seat, light the furnace, weather seal windows, get plow ready. dig out my skull caps, dig out the portable heaters, buy salt for the walk. and wait for the snow to have some fun.

I just unpack my winter clothes and jackets and shoes. I also put a blanket in the car along with a few other items just in case.

Not too much here in Texas, not that cold. Clean out my closets, move summer clothes out and winter clothes in, dry clean my coats, change comforter on my bed, move plants.
