When one straight line stands on another straight line, two angles are formed whose sum is 180 degrees or two right angles.

So we have 6y-10 +6y +10 = 180
12y = 180
y = 15
6y-10 = 80 degrees, and 6y+10 = 100 degrees

If the two angles that are formed are equal to each other, then they both equal 90 degrees and the lines are said to be perpendicular.
