You want to isolate the variable (in other words get "x" by itself). to do this you have to take away whatever is "attatched" to it. in this case it is -1, so to take it away you divide both sides by -1. the -1/-1 cancel out and leave x by itself and 30/-1 equals -30. therefore x= -30

here are the steps:
-1x=30
(-1x)/-1 = 30/-1
x=30/-1
x= -30

another way of thinking about it:
-1x=30 is the same equation as -x=30
to get x by itself you have to change the sign on both sides of the equation...so -x becomes x and 30 becomes -30

hope that helped! i will attatch some websites to help you review a little more :]

-1x=30 can also betranslated as: -x=30
to solve this question you have to change the sign of x, and to do that you also have to change the sign of 30. So, as -x becomes x, 30 becomes -30.

this problem is fairly simply if you do it correctly. You want to isolate the variable. In other words get "x" by itself. To do that you need to get rid of -1. Since -1 is being multiplied to "x" you must divide it by "x". Then you get "x" by itself. Then divide 30/ -1 which is -30. So x= -30
I hope that helps!!!

you have to get x by itself so you have to divide both sides by -1 to get rid of it on the left side:
-1x/-1=30/-1
so now you just have
x=30/-1
so the answer to that is
x= -30

If it is:

X - 1X = 30

Then there is no answer, because 0 =/= 30.

(=/= Does not equal)

divide both sides by -1, giving you x= -30. remember, you can do anything to the equation, as long as you do it to both sides.
