there is an old saying "what goes up, must come down" Does this express a law of nature ? why or why not?

When I was in junior high school, I put this down as a law of science. Of course, I was wrong. It is not a law of science or nature.

I suppose it's a really crude, over-simplified way of stating one of Newton's laws of motion.
