Both places are good; none "better" than the other. Why do you think that one has to be better than the other?
I hope you ignore the comments of the above poster who infers that people in Europe are smelly and are prejudiced against Americans. There's an irony in that his answer demonstrates that he has prejudice against Europeans!!!
I've lived in both San Diego and in Europe and no nation or culture there or elsewhere has eliminated poor hygiene or hatred from their citizenry. To suggest that San Diegans are exceptional in either category in comparison to Europeans is flat out wrong. Although Parisians have a reputation for rudeness, in the months I lived there I was treated with as much kindness as in anywhere else I've lived.

Let me think...in San Diego I can:
- go to the beach and surf (I don't surf) every day
- meet hot chics
- eat the best burritos
- enjoy the weather and stay outdoors
or I can live in Europe and...
- sit next to a smelly french dude
- talk to chics with hairy armpits
- eat snails
- and live somewhere where they don't like americans
San Diego sounds good to me.

it depends how your lifestyle is. . . .I have lived in France and So Cal for equal amounts of time and Europe is totally different than the US, from what you eat, to where/how you shop, the hours of business operations, your job, your partying style, small living quaters/ small cars/etc. . . .Oh and obviously in Europe we have seasons!!! so if you are born and raised in SoCal you may have a hard time dealing with the weather changes. If it were up to me, I'd love to live 6 months here and 6 months there, but I'm French so I'm partial to Europe ; - )
