Well I know that chances of the world ending are pretty low, but the mythology and predictions surrounding this date are extremely high. I wanted to know what you though about this.

Well some things i know might happen near then is a polar shift, which may cause computer problems but may not be the end of the world. also there might be a solar flare large enough to penetrate the earth's atmosphere, therefore exposing all to radiation. by the way it was not only the mayans who predicted it.

To the last person who answered, I am not misinformed. Like i said, the world probably will not end, plus I am an astronomer, and I KNOW that a polar shift is possible.

Yet tthe percentage of possibility is low, it is possible and has happend in the past.

Most all cultures reference the world ending that year. A lot don't say it's actually going to end, but they view the eart as going through different phases. The 2012 prophecy will be end of the 4th, and start of the 5th, and the 5th, is the last.

The Mayans predicted it will end on 2012, dec 21. They predicted it 2000 years ago. No one knows how. But strangly on that date, the earth will be exactly in the middle of the galaxy. And also, there will be a huge start extremely close to the sun. The Mayans says there is an opening to hell at the middle of the milky way, and earth will be right in it's eyesight.

I think somethings going to happen. I am so going to move to indiana (edgar cayce said that will be the safe land), and build an underground bunker with shotguns and grenades and supplies for like 5 years haha .

"the mythology and predictions surrounding this date are extremely high"

"Well some things i know might happen near then is a polar shift, which may cause computer problems but may not be the end of the world. also there might be a solar flare large enough to penetrate the earth's atmosphere, therefore exposing all to radiation. by the way it was not only the Mayans who predicted it."

YOU HAVE BEEN HORRENDOUSLY MISINFORMED. Put down that Ruth Montgomery book and pick up something that is at least vaguely connected with science and the real world. Everything you say you've heard is complete and utter garbage. Not only is the idea of a pole shift impossible, it's utterly ridiculous, and there's no way to predict that far in advance when a solar flare would erupt--and even if you could, I'm sorry, but solar flares just don't get that big.

Oh, and the Mayan "end of the world" thing in 2012 is rubbish as well. The Mayans themselves said no such thing. The date marked the end of a cycle for them, and actually the astronomical event on which they based that cycle already happened back in the 90's. Not only was their astronomy not as unprecedentedly precise as people like to imagine, the end of their era already came and went and What do you know, we're all still here.

Not going to end. I wish some people (not you) would quit feeding into that fear. The whole deal mostly talks about the Mayan calendar supposively ending in 2012. There's actually more on it than most people know. It's just marking the end of an era. Just like it did with the other eras. I suggest looking into John Van Auken. (I apologize if I butchered his name) He has some really interesting books on it. Also, if you want to talk from a spiritual stand point, look into Brian Weiss. He does past life regressions, but did some work with progressions. A small side note: I don't know how people say the bible is claiming that the world is going to end or how long we have. Didn't it say that no one will be able to predict the end of the world? Just a thought. :)

Just another date. People and cultures have been predicting the end of the world since the dawn of recorded history. As far as I can tell, no one has been right yet.

Why should we build our hopes and fears on lost civilizations? It is entirely in the hand of God to create and to end this world. It could happened any day and therefore we should correct our lives to a more gentle and understanding period. Nations should stop fighting wars and we should do more towards the environment and our fellow humans..............

it'll come and go... just like all the other doomsday dates have.

We've had doomsdays in 2004, 2000, 1997, 1993, 1991, 1989, 1981 and 1977 in my lifetime, that I can recall. There were hundreds, maybe thousands, thoughout medieval Europe. all of them failed, too.

All the ones from the first millenium failed, too.

see a pattern? I do.

Some civilization got bored with writing dates on calanders, and people call it the end of the world. These people need a life.

It is not going to happen in 2012. The Mayans got it wrong. The world is going to last a least 1007 more years according to the Bible.
