I'm a stay at home mom and really don't have a lot of time, nor money, to be taking any classes. I went to college for a year, and would love to go back soon, but until then, I really want to learn things from home. Are there any sites that are set up to learn similar to classwork, but don't cost money? I don't need a degree or certificate, this is for my own personal use only.

It really all depends on the teacher. I agree with juvegirl that you should see if you can sit in on some of her classes to get a feel for things. I took Arabic in college and I had a wonderful instructor, so I learned a lot. Unfortunately so far I have just taken the one semester so I am no where near fluent yet. BTW, I did buy the Arabic Rosetta Stone and it is very helpful. It is a little confusing because it teaches the "proper" Arabic so it is different from what I learned in school and from what my husband speaks, but still worth it because it is better to learn the proper way first and then incorporate the "street" way of speaking. Also, if I didn't already know the Arabic alphabet, I probably would not like the Rosetta Stone.

One of the fun things that you can learn is that On-Line universities are usually For Profit schools that are not respected by employers. They cost more than reputable public universities.
