Call your employer & tell him that you will be there at such and such a time because of running late due to whatever your situation is, such as a bad wreck in front of you or whatever it is. I've never actually been late to work. But I did call in one day when my car was in a flood. I still made it to work in time, by some miracle, but only because I also called my dad & then my dad came & got me & took me to work. I abandoned my car.
