the service light on any and ALL toyota vehicles is the 30,000-35,000 full service check up. this is more important than an oil change. this also inclueds bushing and suspension joint grease and lube, oil change, transmission check and fluid change, replacement injectors, spark plugs, valve clean up and tire rotation AND possibly emissions checkup *if needed*. Toyota is rather good about all this, toyota is not out for your money, they have no need to take all your cash. they've been around for a VERY long time and are beginning to reach the top.

to help this problem though, if it's not the 30,000-35,000mile checkup, then it could be a number of things. first off, if you havn't had your oil changed within a 5,000mile period, the check engine light will come on. if you do not tighten the gas cap down until you hear a click, the check engine light will come on. if the water and or oil cap are not tightened then the check engine light will come on. also, if you use premium gas on the xB without it being turbo'ed, after a while the check engine like will come on because the engine is specificly designed to use 87octane, higher octanes on the 1NZFE with VVTi leads to lower economy which confuses the VVT-i self learning based ECU because it's no longer hitting it's target economy. a couple DIY *do it your self* options of getting rid of the light, given you know you have taken care of your car and know about everything that needs to be taken care of, you can simply pull out the gauge cluster and dis-connect the power wire to that specific light in the dash OR you can simply reset the ECU. resetting the ECU can be done one of two ways, one is if you dis-connect the battery over night OR you can physicaly reset the ECU, how to reset the ECU your self i'm not sure being i havn't had the need to my self *i own an 06 xB* but it is doeable and works just fine.

Ben-

I've got an '06 Xb and an '07 Tc.

The procedure is the same on both vehicles.

Push the trip meter until the total milage is showing. Turn the key to the off position.

Turn the key to the "ON" position while holding the trip button down. Continue to hold it down until the little bar codes go away and the console flashes 000000. Once this happens the milage will return to its normal setting.

Release the button and you are done.

The light will flash on and blink at 4000 miles. Then it will come on and stay on at 5000 miles to remind you to change your oil and filter.

I change oil every 3000 miles or 90 days regardless of what the manual says.

Here is a good way to remind your self.

I monitor my milage on each fuel up. Trip A is reset on every tank of fuel. Trip B is reset on every oil change. When trip B is at 3000 miles, I change my oil.

If you will get into a habit of doing that, then you will never miss an oil change.

I hope I was able to help you out! Good Luck!

Wonderful. Worked perfectly. I have a 2008 Scion and it didn't work when I had it set on the mileage, but did work when set on Trip A.

Same procedure as stated in the comments, just set on Trip A. Hold button down, turn car to on, light went off after a few seconds. Thank you very much for the help.

You MUST bring to dealer due to the fact that a light could mean a little short or need new parts which are labor intensive in my experience but not usually the case. You can easily turn off light but a lot of mechanics unfortunately do just that. get hooked to dealers diag machine.

I take it you got your oil changed and its still on? Turn your trip meter to odometer. Then turn your car off. then turn it back to the on (everything turns on..lights...etc EXCEPT engine). hold in the odometer button. it will show like 5 lines. each line will flash until you get down to zero. this will reset your milage.

Hey Ryan S: the timing belt is a CHAIN on this model, so no replacement or maintenance is necessary!
