I was shocked by people saying they'd grab Madeleine McCann if they saw a child who looks like her.

I TOTALLY understand calling the police and immediately alerting people, and even following them so you know where they are just in case, while waiting for the police to arrive.

But if you 'grab' or snatch a kid who you think looks like Madeleine, what the hell do you think will happen if it is not her? The parents will clobber you and you could be arrested.

Precisely. I've seen many people state they'd just pick her up and run off! I'd definitely alert the police using my mobile if I was sure, and would follow the people discreetly if they left, keeping track of their movements, watching for anything suspicious, etc, until the authorities got to the scene.

I have had this happen to me.

I understand why it happened and to be honest, I think I may have done the same.
These days though, notify the police if you are suspicious. Discretely follow them but let the police deal with it.

Although I understand why we are talking about 'grabbing a child', If anyone tried to grab my child they would have wished they had never!

Regardless of what you think you see the best course of action is to be discreet, call the police and try and stay close if possible without drawing attention to yourself....

It's a lovely thought but I doubt anyone will find Madeleine alive.............

I don't think anyone in their right mind would just grab the kid. Unless the person she was with started to do a runner and then, yes I might.

If I had a daughter who looked like Maddie I would have no problem if a stranger demanded that I wait till thhe police arrived so they could check. As long as it was all done in a way that wouldnt distress the kid.

No way I would touch another child!! Follow her definitely, and call police on my mobile - let them deal with it. Personally, I wouldn't be upset if police challenged me and my grandaughter if someone thought it was Madeline -it shows someone gives a damn.
