Take the receipt and go back to the store. Honesty is the best policy. When my brother was a baby he "stole" a pair of socks- we returned them to the store and apologized and the manager gave us a $50 gift card for being honest. Honesty has it's rewards.

No it isn't and it is the right thing to do. I do the same. Once I walked out of a grocery store and realized I had 4 cases of soda on the bottom of the cart. I had forgotten all about it and no one saw or noticed. They were quite shocked when I returned to the store to pay for them. My integrity was well worth more than the $10.00 in soda and it also proved effective on those in the store. Almost as if they were shocked that there are still honest people in the world.
BTW. It is $23.00. I'm sure that won't make you feel any better though. :)

Well, it's nice to see someone that has a conscience, and willing to act on it. It isn't too late to go back and pay the difference. Bring the sales slip with you when you go back, show the price you were charged and indicate the item and difference in price. (The saleslip isn't necessary,if you recall the prices of each item). You haven't compromised your integrity.....not yet. However, your integrity will be compromised if you don't follow through and correct the situation.

You aren't under any legal duty to do so, but do so if you feel morally obligated.
It'd only be against the law if there was some intentional action that you performed by your own volition which caused or induced the cashier to ring you up for less than the marked price, and then you took the item. Barring that, you're in the clear.

This would not fall under criminal law, it is a question of ethics.
In the big scheme of things, the $21 is not going to change your life. I think you would feel much better returning it.
Not to mention if the store discovers the error, they may charge the clerk for the error.
You won't regret returning it, you never know how long you may regret keeping the money.

You compromised your integrity for $23. If you feel strongly about it, go back and explain, and pay them what you owe them. You'll feel better for having done the right thing. It isn't too late, just tell them you realized when you got home, and this was your first chance to get back to the store.

Go back with your receipt and pay the extra money. It's the right thing to do and you know it. That's why it's been bothering you. You may feel a little embarrassed for waiting, but you're a good person with a conscience. Please stay that way.

Morally, do what you think is right
Legally, this sort of thing happens all the time, so they don't bother we (I am in law enforcement) it,
But i would suggest going back and tell them what happened
I went to hardees yesterday and they charged me 3.50 for a 11.50 meal, so i went back and said
Hey, y'all made a mistake here
