in contests that require some form of intelligence ? Like I dont know, pointing out how unattractive they are and nobody could value them for their looks, since they like it so much to point out that miss universe probably wont make the noble prize. Or we could go even further and point out that intelligent women as a whole are utterly useless since they never produced anything of value, except for Kevlar and that good looking women at least entertain us.
Oh and before you say, Mary Curie it was Mrs. AND Mr. Curie, feminists who complain how men steal womens work like to forget that.

Rio no they havent, in the past few years the few ceos who have been in charge in the fortune 500 collectively drove their companies in the ground. One was even so awfull she almost ruined it and got replaced asap with a 20 mill $ parachute.

Belittling is the method of last resort for those who cannot form a cogent argument.
As I can form a cogent argument, for me, it's just an opportunity to get a rise out of someone.
Let the feminists eat their young - it makes for good theater.
And don't forget, Michael Nesmith's mother invented liquid paper, in her kitchen sink, no less.

You are overlooking the possibility of an intelligent woman being beautiful.
Its true that the vast majority of the women in those pageants are 'professionals' at that game, having been raised in a pageant lifestyle since a very young age. Its also true that they may not be very bright, and have to rely upon their appearances to get ahead. In reaching Miss Universe, they have, in essence, made it to the 'Super Bowl'.
But just to be fair, those pageants offer the winner a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel and meet people she wouldn't otherwise. There are tremendous financial benefits, and if used properly, her 'title' could open doors for her later in life.
I think its just sad that the pageants are set up in the fashion they are, so that no self respecting woman with a brain in her head would participate - good looking or not!

Withing feminism there exist a variety of discourses and arguments, there are "radical" feminists but there are many other kinds of feminism as well.
Soooo....if we were to have "intelligent" women compete on a national level for brain power--hey it sounds like a great idea actually, and then say the best physics and math scores wins, how many more engineers and scientist would we create in younger generations of women?
I love the NEW WAVE feminism that is rising up against the backlash. Naomi Wolf has MUCH MORE to say to answer your questions and I suggest googling her and reading her books.

Maybe intelligent women haven't produced nearly the amount of inventions that men have, but that doesn't mean they have no value. There are more women at the helms of large companies, firms, and schools than there have ever been, they have all been very successful, and it doesn't matter what they look like. You could also ask what women who are both beautiful and stupid have ever done for us. I'd love to see you come up with an answer to that one.

I'm confused as to why you think the belittling of beauty pageants has anything to do with the women who compete in them. It's not the individuals, it's the pageant itself which is problematic. The structure prizes appearance over intelligence, and parades women like sheep or cattle, looking for the highest bidder. Other than schadenfreude, which *is* entertaining but not particularly nice, there's no real reason to watch pageants.
Intelligence-based competitions like science fairs, mathletes, essay competitions, Pulitzer prizes, and the Nobel Foundation, on the other hand, do not treat persons like livestock. The competition is academic, not aesthetic. The structure is totally different.
Sport-based competitions (Olympiads, Wimbledon, World Cups) fall somewhere between the two because while athletic achievement is prized over aesthetics in the competitions themselves, the more attractive athletes often get better endorsement deals than their plainer teammates.

I don't care that much about beauty contests. If the women want to enter them and they are adults old enough to decide for themselves, then go for it. What I don't like are child beauty pageants. The children are often forced to enter because their parents want them to. Then they're made up to look like little tarts with their hair extensions and falls and heavy makeup. What especially makes me cringe are their silly song-and-dance numbers where they often sing off-key. I've almost never seen a happy looking child in these contests.
