I was having a conversation with someone who's opinion I respect and this question entered my mind. I will defend a persons right to offend me (by doing things like burning a flag etc...) but will they defend my right to be offended by their actions? (speaking out about my feelings on the matter) or is free speech only a one way street...

I defend the rights of every individual do live as they choose and strongly recommend that religion be taught as mythology and cults of the past .
I support life and consider it to begin at conception and I also feel it is anyones right to own fully automatic weapons and use depleted uranium bullets if they so choose .
This was suppose to be a free country .
They have forced you to belief you must pay taxes and you need a license to drive .
To spend a single dollar of tax money on condoms or teaching celibacy is a crime to me.
I defend freedom and that includes the right to move if you do not like the billboard of a naked woman on a 40x80 billboard across from your home .

Point him out to me, I will deal with the Rebel Traitor!
According to the American Legion, burning a US Flag is the ONLY respectable way to destroy it.
Why should burning an Iranian flag offend you?
Just tell him, I'm right, you're wrong, God said it, I believe it, and that is that.

I will defend your right to express your opinion -- whether I agree with that opinion or not -- and even if your opinion is that everyone else who disagrees with you should be silenced.
But while I will defend your right to express your opinion -- and defend your right to feel whatever you want to feel -- I will not support or defend anyone who actually tries to silence someone else solely because of what they are saying.

I may not agree with what you say, but I would fight to the death your right to say it, as should we all.
I would not burn the American flag under any circumstances, but I do believe that burning the flag is a part of political descent, and should be allowed. We have our ideals and burning the symbols does not destroy our ideals only the symbols

Yes.
All Americans have the same rights.
Stop buying in to baseless propaganda.
Did this person say they would not defend your right to express your opinion?
If so, they are not deserving of your respect.

Any air head who would burn the very symbol that represents his right to do so isn't going to entertain anything you might have to say - so why bother?

i never offended you. i pointed out the logical fallacies of your argument. you can interpret that as a deliberately rude statement if you like, but that's not how it was meant.
