So I am packing my bag for the hospital and It's already getting kind of full. Mostly because I made a bag of snacks for the nurses station since they help you the whole time and it's taking up a lot of room. So did anyone bring a bag for themselves and a diaper bag for the baby?? Or is that too many bags?

absolutely pack a seperate bag! one reason is because the hospital may give you lots of freebies (blankets, undershirts, pampers, formula, bottle nipples, and such) and you won't be able to fit all that in your bag. plus, depending on how long you stay in the hospital, you may need a few changes of clothes for baby, a few hats, pairs of socks, if you bought him a pacey, bring that and any blankets you want to bring. i would pack a diaper bag the way you would pack in once you and baby are on-the-go for real.

AND, people will probably bring you even more gifts and baby do-dads in the hospital...you'll need more room than just your bag!!

There is really no need for an extra bag just for the baby. All you need is an outfit to bring the baby home in. All the hospitals I've ever heard of give you newborn diapers, formula if you are not breastfeeding, everything you need. You might want to bring an extra empty bag though, so it will be easier to carry out all the stuff you'll likely come home with.

I didn't pack a labor bag even though I was induced both times. I planned on wearing the same clothes to the hospital and home from the hospital. I packed sweatpants + tshirts to wear the entire stay at the hospital. I basically packed just a bag that I brought into the hospital. I did have a second bag in the car that had extra clothes for the baby, my husband, and I. The second bag was just in case something happened where we needed to stay extra or if we needed extra clothes. My advice is pack just enough to take into the hospital. Pack a second bag and keep it in the car. The less things you bring into the hospital the better.

I packed an entire diaper bag. You will want at least 2 warm and 2 cool outfits (unless it's the middle of winter!) and diapers, wipes. Sleepers.

You don't really need to hostess for the maternity nurses. If you would like, you could ask a close living relative to bring a coffee cake when they come to visit. But the nurses are going to expect you to whip out the granola and iced tea while you are trying to birth a baby.

I'm wondering if you have overkill. All you need is something to take the baby home in, a cap and a receiving blanket to cover the baby on the way home. Your belly is still going to be big when you leave, so plan to wear the same clothes you arrived in. Bring a nursing bra if you have one. If you absolutely cannot stand alternate pillows, bring your own (and a boppy pillow if breastfeeding). Most of what you think you need, you probably won't use anyway. One thing though-extra batteries for the camera. You will need them if you don't bring them.

If you are having a planned c-section, take your robe as well. You will be staying longer, so likely could use it. My hospital supplies those as well, so I wouldn't even need that. I think that's sweet to bring snacks for the nurse's station.

I made a bag for the baby, but didn't really use anything in it. Make sure you bring wipes. I was told most hospitals won't give them to you because your baby might have an allergic reaction to them. If you want your baby in clothes when people come to visit I would pack those and a picture outfit/going home outfit and blankets. The hospital supplies you with bottles(if you're not breastfeeding), formula, diapers, and burp cloths(which double for wiping their bottoms). Make sure to pack snacks for your coach because you won't want them to leave your side while you're in labor. Good Luck!

no i was able to pack the baby's bag inside my bag. u shouldnt need much for baby except for an outfit for baby and depending on what the weather is like u may want to take a light jacket or sweater... and maybe even a receiving blanket. if u have insurance, ur insurance is paying for the supplies the hospital provides... diapers, formula (if u r going to use it), tshirts, hat, etc... so think about what u really need and take only that... oh and i put a brush in my bag because i plan to get pictures taken and depending on what ur baby's hair will look like u may want to have a brush handy... ;) hope this was helpful

Maybe you could take out the bag of snacks for the nurses, and just take that in separately. Then maybe you'd have room for the baby's things.

All you really need to pack for the baby is an outfit for coming home, maybe a receiving blanket, and other little odds and ends.

Really all you need for the baby, is a blanket and a soft onesie and socks. For yourself a loose gown for labor, a gown for recovery, slippers and a loose outfit to wear home.

I found that the book Girlfriends guide to pregnancy had some great feedback on what to be prepared for when you go. Not just clothes wise, but what kind of forms (there are sooo many) you will fill out, etc.

Unformtuantly I read it after I had my baby, and wished I had read it before I would have been so much better prepared.

I packed one huge diaper bag for me and my baby. I didn't use one thing in it except for the outfit to take my baby home in and the blanket. The day after I had my daughter, my husband went home to shower, rest, etc., and to grab the outfit I wanted to go home in. The hospital provides everything you need for the baby. Bring a small travel pack w/ shampoo, a toothbrush, toothpaste so you can clean up when you're expecting visitors. Leave most of the other stuff at home and family or your husband can always go get it for you. Also, when you leave the hospital you'll have tons of flowers and gifts to take home with you. Let your husband take half of it home with him when he goes home and then take the other half of your gifts home with you. Good luck!
