It has origins that are pure and correct. However, the word was perverted in it's use in the US over time which has made it offensive to African Ameicans.
So although not technically a "bad" word, it has become associated with bad attitudes.

I think in the case of UNCF they are referring to a group of people (African Americans ) and although I agree with you they probably should change the name but because it is a positive group doing positive things for people it that case it can be overlooked. I dont know why people cant understand that the word itself takes on different meaning depending on how its used and who is using it. I guess if you have to question if and when it should be said then you shouldn't be using it.

It's certainly not as bad as some, but it is rather obsolete, and using it regularly is at least going to make you sound fifty or more years out of date, and certainly suspect. Certain organizations (like the UNCF) retain the usage because it is a part of their history.

It depends on what context the word is used in. In this case, the UNCF is a proper name of a fund. So, no.

Racial slurs are in the ears of the listener. You can't do anything about what people may take offence to. On the other hand, you shouldn't intentionally offend. ***** is not used much any more. I would personally avoid using it.

No more than the word Black.
***** is a race of people.
However the word, "N-i-double G-er"
does not mean "black" nor
does it mean, "*****."
What the original meaning
was, "a dirty, low-down person."
It does not mean any particular
race of humankind.
It's like the word, "trash."
It also means,
"dirty, low-down person."
But we have taken some words
further to really add insult
to injury.
Such as " trailer-trash",
"biker-trash", "poor white-trash",
"white-trash", " gypsy-trash"
and so on and so forth
In some places in the world,
I have heard and seen people called
all sorts of things.
It has come to my attention
that putting a Label on someone
else, seems to make one
feel superior.
But this is not true.
In my opinion,
I think that ,
"labels should be for cans, not people."

it won't be a foul observe, greater like previous observe. It purely isn't used anymore in particular because of the fact it sounds so close to to ***@er. and a few those with heavy accents might say ***** besides the shown fact that it might appear like ***@r. So the black human beings desperate they wanted to be stated as colored somewhat, Then they went to black. Now a number of them choose to be stated as African American. yet maximum of my acquaintances might somewhat be stated as black. they seem to alter there "team call" alot yet I cant choose. I even have replaced my call thrice, so far!

no its not a bad word.... but im sure there are some african americans that have a problem with it.... its like nothing is ever good enough for some of them. we have tried every way to be "less offensive" to them, but no matter what are efforts are, there are always a few that still have a probelm.
