I am going to start building a computer for myself over the next two years (I will need 2 Christmases worth of money lol). Anyway one of the first things I am going to invest in is a monitor. I really enjoy programming so I am looking for something 22+ in size preferably 24-28. I was wondering where is the best place to get a monitor this size.

Don't buy anything until you have all the money.

The one thing you can guarantee about computer equipment is that it will be cheaper and better tomorrow than it is today.

Unless you can use the stuff you buy on an old system then why spend the money to get something that will sit in a box for a year (running out the warranty in the process) that you could have brought for 20% less if you had waited?

Start looking at what the state of technology is now, so that you can follow where it is going and make an informed decision when you actually have the money to buy the equipment. Just be careful that your system spec does not creep just because new (and more expensive) technology is available. Decide what you want the system for and design it around that. If you want to change the spec, make sure it is for a good reason and not just because you can.

A piece of advice regarding such a plan - save the purchase of the Monitor , video card and the CPU for last in order to get the best deal for your money. Those items tend to drop in price much faster than other components as newer models come out.

You can often find good deals on monitors at Newegg, or tigerdirect. A lot of people trash Tigerdirect, but they often have pretty nice rebates on monitors, and I've never had a problem collecting the rebate.
