why do cigg. smokers have to subsidize everything in america? every time ya turn around, they add a tax. its not fair.
i know if i start a fire and repeatedly inhale the smoke, eventually ill get sick n die.- im ok with that.- i guess some morons got big settlements and now er'one thinks its ok to tax, tax, tax
if u or a loved one got a big settlement cuz ya smoked for years and got sick, GROW UP AND ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY.
ppl dont die from 2nd hand smoke, so throw that b.s. away
if ya dont like the smell, DONT ALLOW IT IN UR HOME/CAR ETC ETC.
its bad enough we cant go to restaurants or bars anymore
but for godssakes, quit taxing us to death

Finally a person with BRAINS!! People need to wake up, and see what is really going on!
1. Smog from cars, trucks, semi's, buses, motorcycles, and airplanes dumping fuel before they land.
2, Factories bellowing smoke out daily, (have you actually SMELLED that crap)?
3. All the aerosol cans in your home.
did you know you could actually take 2000 smokers, place them around a smoke stack have them light up, and they still can't match the smoke from it?
You really want to tax something? Try Alcohol! It kills more more a day than any cigarette ever could. I have never ever seen a person killed by a car from a cigarette, how many people do you know that's died from a drunk?

As a non smoker I can see where having a bit of a tax to subsidize all the health problems that smoking causes. (Yes, secondhand smoke IS bad for you! Want proof? I'm allergic to it.)
Also because many cigarette smokers refuse to use a garbage can and dumb their butts on the ground, many cities have to hire city sweepers to walk around and sweep up your cigarette butts. It costs alot of money. I don't see any problem with smokers paying for that cost. It wouldn't be there if you could through your butts away.
But I don't agree with these new tax propositions in place. I do think you are paying high enough. I don't think taxing the hell out of one group or another is a wise solution to a problem.
Although, feel free to quit any time! We (the non-smokers) will help you out and we sure won't complain if we don't see your cigarette butts all over the place.

As a smoker myself I think I've subsidized enough throughout the years. There are a ton of unhealthy things people do everyday and it's time to pass the burden around. I read or heard something recently that we are all getting so fat our cars and tires were not built to accomodate the added weight without causing problems.....children are having problems with clogged arteries because of the junk they are being fed and are experiencing far more problems from that than 2nd hand smoke occationally. Maybe they need to tax that stuff for a change. Lord knows it would be unfair if some innocent family was killed while your buzzing out of McDonalds eating your burger, blow out a tire and cause a serious traffic pile up. Then injure the paramedics with back injuries they suffer the rest of their life because someone was to fat and couldn't control their eating.
There's plenty of problems to go around to share the tax burden. I'm with you......lay off....enough already.

The higher the taxes, the less children begin smoking.
Additionally, smokers stink up my air, fill up hospital beds, and take up a disproportionate load of national healthcare plans. That's fine. But why not tax cigarettes to balance out that disproportionate load you're inflicting on the rest of us? Why not tax cigarettes and alcohol - they create no positive repercussions, they're not necessary for survival, and most people agree that they shouldn't be abused.
Hell I love a good bottle of wine or a cider along with the next person, but I know I've got to pay for it.
Edit: Funny, I've never heard of a cigarette tree. Besides, how does something simply existing give you a right to engage in a potentially harmful activity?

they're attempting to ascertain if there is any incorrect way of punishing companies that hire human beings and actual make a income. Why might congress ever pay interest to all people who's an expert on a topic matter? they're all power hungry ego-maniacs, who don't think any professional could probably be responsive to extra approximately any topic than they do.

The smokers other the companies that sell cigarettes have no one to represent their rights. As a non-smoker it's hard to stand up for the rights of smokers. I watched both my parents die of smoking related illness, so I think you are on your own.

they are beginning to realize there problem , as smokers quite because of the high tax, they don't get as much of our money to spend, and they have had some state senators start backing down and saying we are screwing up. i think it was Minnesota that had a congressman bring that point up , and he started proposing smarter legislation , to leave it legal in bars and other places that children don't or shouldn't go.

To all the non-smoking fanatics. Please check your pension plans and see what stocks are included in your plan. I know Florida teachers pension had stocks in the tobacco companies. Bet a lot more do too. It will never be illegal because it brings in big bucks.

Hello... We're addicted. Crack addicts rob friends and spend time in jail.
Consider ourselves lucky, the government just abuses it's power with us, but they don't get us all new boyfriends named Bubba who think we're cute with our hair up.
