I think it sounds like a stripper name personally.

A trendy choice generally used by parents who have absolutely no connection to Brooklyn. Overused, and meaninglessly so. Not attractive to me at all, I'm afraid.

Ps. I'm not sure why the above posters think it's such an "uncommon" choice -- perhaps they don't know any children? LOL -- but Brooklyn is nearly in the top 50 MOST COMMON names for girls. And that's not counting all the trendy misspellings (Brooklynn is a popular one) and similar names, like the obvious shortening Brook(e). Not unusual or interesting in the least.

It was the 67th most popular girl's name given to babies in the US last year, and has been increasing in popularity for years now, so it's not the unusual name people seem to think it is. (Just in case that matters to you.)

I personally think that if there weren't a NY borough by that name, Brooklyn would be a very pretty name. By itself, it's a sweet-sounding name, but I can't get past the city association or the fact that it's a pretty trendy name these days.
That said, if you really like it, given it's popularity, it seems unlikely that the name would sound particularly "weird" to people. It's not as outlandish as some, nor as ordinary as others.

I like it. A friend of mine's little girl is named that. Everyone calls her Brooklyn and not just Brooke. If you like it, go for it! Does anyone elses opinion really matter?? Well ok, maybe just the babies father! ;)

thats SO 5 years ago

How about picking a town name near you, a cute small town with nice scenery, cute homes, etc.

Or pick a road name where all the homes are stately, historic, etc.

Sounds like a bridge honestly but if your separated it Brooke as first and Lynn as second I like it a lot better.
