Disregard the result. All results should be read within 10 minutes and then throw the test away, and leave it there... LOL! (Anybody trying to conceive knows exactly what I mean!)
The line you saw is called a "evaporation line" and it's probably grayish in color. It comes out when the urine on the strip dries out and you basically see where the + was supposed to be.
You can ceck this website www.peeonastick.com and go to the "the truth about - and + tests" to get more info on why these tests are very misleading.
If you still suspect pregnancy I would retest in 3 days. You might have ovulated later than you think, or stressing out about an unwanted pregnancy (you didn't specify, sorry!) can delay your period also.
Hope this helps and good luck!

No - it was probably an evaporation line. Never read a test after 10 minutes.
You said a plus sign so I'm guessing this was a test using blue dye... the evap lines on blue dye tests typically look like a really thin positive line.
Retest again and this time, wait the alotted time. When I got my positive, I watched it for the first few seconds and was disheartened when I only saw the negative line appear. Then, sure enough, after about 3 more minutes the positive line showed up! And got darker and darker and darker....

This is probably what's called an evaporation line. As the urine evaporates of the test it leaves behind a faint line. Often this line is grey but sometimes it is the same color as the other line. This is why the instructions say that the test is not accurate after a certain amount of time has passed.
Take another test to know for sure.

Nope. A lot of tests will eventually show all the line after so many hours. I think you should take another test and wait the full time on the instructions. Sometimes the negative line will show up first and then you have to wait a few minutes for the positive line to show up. Better yet, get the digital "pregnant" or "not pregnant" test.

Evaporation lines occur after the 5 minute waiting period, I'd retest and follow the directions.

I am pretty sure they are only considered accurate for a certain amount of time. Maybe a couple of hours. You should probably re-take it. I hate that for you because they are so expensive. But better to be safe than sorry. Good luck either way!

I would retake the test...in early pregnancy it sometimes takes a little time for both lines to show...oh btw...I bet you are pregnant...it takes the pregnancy hormone in order for both lines to show...take another test just to be sure, Good luck!
