the screw is slid down a narrow channel and is locked in to place after being inserted into a wide hole at the bottom of the channel

This system is called a "keyhole". Hence the upside down keyhole shape.

Also used on GLIT Entertainment centers I have no real clue as to the Scientific name , but I call them BLIND connectors and CAPTURE nuts. The type that have a ribbed length that is the holding part of the mechanism in the ROD portion, usually with a narrow area at the HEAD end that the screw driver driven/ twist capture nut grabs to. I may be totally wrong however. I am once in awhile.
