I'm not sure Stephen Hawking wanders around Y-Answers...
Far be it for me to speak for him, but Hawking probably equates the word "god" with the Universe or Nature. He certainly does not believe in an invisible friend in the sky.

I wouldn't presume to speak for the man, but all of his writings (that I've ever read) lead me to believe that he believes that there is an underlying principle behind the Universe. I guess if you want to call that principle 'God' that's up to you.

Are you serious!? why the hell does he of all people beleive in something that ridiculous? I though at least smart people like him would realise there is no god or anything like that.

I've never noted him being religious but he has suggested that he believes that there is a supreme being.
