I wrote to Chili's and asked them to stop playing the "I want my baby back, baby back, baby back" song because it caused me to have to leave the room covering my ears "lalala"-ing everytime it came on. I said I would refuse to patronize Chili's unless they pulled it. That was during the last Summer Olympics. I honestly haven't seen it since, but I doubt my letter had anything to do with it's disappearance.
Oh yeah... I also appealed a Yahoo! Answers suspension, and they actually reinstated it. They suspended my account for posting a link to a website as an answer to "What tattoo would you get on your forehead?". The particular web-based business had previously payed a woman $100,000 to get the name of that website tattooed on her forehead. I sent Yahoo! Customer care a link to the news story with an explanation of how I didn't intend to violate the community guidelines, and they reinstated my account.

Big companies often have lots of customer service folks working for them... If you don't get the result you want from the first, try again!
Call back and odds are you'll get someone else who might be in a better mood... and you might get better results.
Good luck!

yes. :) i'm really good at writing letters to companies. the night i had arranged to meet my ex boyfriend's parents at my house, i made sure to get lots of vegan-friendly food. trader joe's all the way.. really racked up the bill. well, there was this vanilla ice cream that had claimed to be soy and vegan friendly. turns out it had some kind of milk-derivitive in it and all three of them (my ex and his mom and dad) got really sick because it had been about 9 years since they had any kind of dairy at all. so i wrote the company a nice little "thank you SO much" letter... and i never talked to my ex's parents again. they hated me from that point foward and were convinced that i had TRIED to poison them. :-/ whatev. the company never wrote me back. but as far as i know they don't make that ice cream anymore, so i must not have been the only one to complain. f*ckers.

I once complained to McDonald's 1-800#. Within 20 minutes I was on the phone with a DM that refunded me my purchase money and put $100 worth of coupons in the mail to me. He listened to my complaint and even asked me how I would have dealt with the problem. At the end of our hour long conversation he invited me to come to work in his district office.

i think it depends on the company and your tone. i always ask for the corporate HQ address and write a letter. so far i received new knobs for my stove, $10. gift certificate and a $200 gift credit. of the 4 times i've done it only once did i get nothing.

Same here. If your too agressive and hostile, you get nothing. If you act civilized and cool, you have a better chance at getting it fixed. I did the opposite of the usual, and it actually worked.
