My husband and I just bought a car and the stupid thing doesn't have a temperature gauge. It has a light that tells you when the car is overheating and it has a little info display that tells you the temperature of the coolant. I have no idea if 189 degrees F is a low temp, mid or high. I would really love to know what temperature indicates that the car is getting hot, so I can pull over before the car overheats.

The rest of the car is just lovely, but when you're on a budget you don't always get everything you want.

240 Deg F. is pretty damn hot.(I better pull over NOW.)
220 Deg F. is real hot. (I better look for a place to park)
210 Deg is getting hot. (humm.....my temperatre is going up)
200 Deg F. is warm (la-te-da......I should keep an eye on it)
190 Deg F. is normal
If the temperture starts to rise. Turn your A/C on low. That will make the radiator fan come on, but not create too much residual heat in front of the radiator.

You didn't mention what year and model the car is, however if in normal driving the temp is 190 you are fine.

This is normal for your car. 200 to 205 is also ok. Anything higher is probably something to worry about.

I'd also suggest checking your owners manual. You'd be surprised what is explained in the book you are expected to read if you own the car.

New car? manufactures are going to all digital systems. 155 would be considered cool, 185 to 190 is normal, 200 and above is hot and repair is needed.
