where is the starter?

on a '97 honda civic dx??
manual transmission.

its on the right (passenger side) of the engine compartment on top of and to the rear of the transmission bell housing. the transmission bell housing is where the clutch is housed and the bell housing is bolted to the engine, so follow the engine valve cover to the end at the passenger side then look down and to the rear and you should see the starter.

you can also follow the red battery cable to the starter but sometimes those cables get buried under stuff and you lose track of it or can't see where its going without raising the car up.
