because our pets give us unconditional love

can you say the same about your mate?!

We expect love and companionship from our pet. We know they can't pay the bills and once we take on the responsibility of being a pet owner we know that it comes with being their caretaker. Keeping them fed, having water, taking them to the vet, getting their shots, making sure they get exercise. With a mate, it is only right that they put in 100% each. If they are capable they should be putting in their half. The two things are COMPLETELY different.

Because humans have the ability to work and pay their way, of course. Pets give back by being our companions. We choose to have pets just as we choose to have a mate. Our pets expect nothing from us except their basic needs and lots of love. Our mates put all kinds of expectations on us.

My dog pays her way. She gives me kisses galore and sits when I tell her. Eats whatever I give her without complaining, warms me up at night. Lowers my blood pressure and walks with me every morning and every night. I couldn't get my husband to do any of those things. My dog doesn't cheat on me, doesn't complain, doesn't max out my credit cards and never occupies the bathroom for an hour in the morning while I wait outside crossing my legs.

Pets dont have a way to earn money to pay for things.

I do not follow your rationale.
A husband is human and
(usually) works to survive.
A dog is an animal and has
little sense. You could get the
dog a good job and keep his
salary.

If all my "mate" wanted was kibbles and ear-scratchies, I wouldn't expect him to pay his part.

i don't expect any help from my mate: he's dead and the dog still won't pay his way!

I think you need to see your doctor. Whatever meds you are on is causing irrational thoughts.
