I have recently been introducing rice cereal to my 4.5 month old. We started with small amounts very thin at first but lately I have been putting 2 ounces of formula in a bowl and mixing in cereal until slighly thickened and then she gets the other 3 ounces of formula in a bottle. I am going to do this once a day and was thinking when she turns 5 months start 2 times per day. Is this right. What did you do? Im so confused about abby feeding... I wish she could tell me what she wants!! :)

I started out slow like that too. That sounds good, but maybe when you increase to 2 times a day, try adding a vegetable with the cereal and formula. Remembering to try different veggies every 3-4 four days. I did that for about a month or so then added in fruits and then finally did 3 meals a day. My son is almost 9 months old and has yet to have any table food. I wanted to take it really slow... he really enjoys everything that I've given him and I don't want him to be picky like I am. Good Luck.
I didn't start solids til about 5.5 months. But I'm not going to tell you when I think you should start because it's different for everyone.
You could do breakfast and dinner. Giving her a larger rest in between. That way she's still getting a lot of formula and you don't risk her getting constipated. But either way you do it will be fine. Whatever works with your schedule the best is what you should do.
Make sure to start with veggies. Fruits taste better than veggies. If you start with fruit your baby may(more than likely) reject the veggies. Good Luck!

Don't go by a calendar, all babies are different. I would go to twice a day as soon as your baby is happily eating everything you give her once a day. (And think about adding things like banana too, I don't know if you've tried it, but rice cereal is the most boring, tasteless stuff ever. I have no idea why babies eat it!)
She will tell you what she wants, trust me. If she doesn't want it, she will spit, dribble, wriggle, not open her mouth, howl (yes, they can do both simultaneously :) ) try to escape from the high chair... If she's doing none of the above, she wants it.

Everyone will say something different.
Follow her lead. Feed her when she is hungry.
From what I have gathered, rice cereal is more about learning how to eat than anything. She is still getting all her nutritional needs met by her formula. In my house, it is more about getting her used to meal times (breakfast and dinner) than following a schedule.
I know that isn't very helpful. You have to trust your instint and your pediatrician.

personally I would say none for another 2-4 weeks. With my son we went with what public health told us and waited until 5 months and with the exception of oats he flew through everything without problem. This was also around the time he was already having 6 8oz bottles of formula a day.
As huch as people talk down about public health, they are actually very helpful when it comes to new babies, especially for a new mother. There were a lot of free programs we were able to take advantage of that we wouldn't have otherwise known about if we didn't have a in home visit with a public health nurse every month. My cousin says they are only for people on assistance, but I say otherwise. They have useful knowledge of local information, local laws and such that you just might not know about.

when my son was 4 months I started him on rice cereal.but I was only giving him2 to 4 teaspoons a day just so he can get use to eating off a spoon.you pose to make the cereal real watery not thick in you don't have to use that much formula for the cereal.because your baby is not use to eating off a spoon in she not going to eat that much just yet wait till she like 6 or 7 month to make it a little thick.

That actually sounds perfect. The bulk of her nutrition is still in the formula. It would actually be okay to increase to 2x per day now if you wanted to.
When she gets to 5 months, you can start with the pureed veeggies/fruits. Sweet potatoes is my daughters favorite right now!

well my son is 5 1/2 months and i still only give it to him once in while and not twice a day as he is breastfed and could get constipated very easily. if i were you i would ring you ped and ask for the right routine for your individual baby. my doc gave me the ok for rice cereal at 4 months but every baby is different

The best bet would be to ask the baby doctor. They can tell you what is a good amount to feed a little one. You just want to make sure that they are not getting underfed or over fed. good luck with that.
