word. the fastest growing non-technology sector in business is private prisons. It has become profitable to imprison citizens. So you need laws to keep people in them. Hence 3 strikes laws, and crazy time for minor offenses.
The reason it was made illegal in the first place was from pressure from the Timber industry. A single acre of hemp will produce the equivalent of 10 acres of timber, pulp wise. Nowdays though, it is pharmaceutical companies who would rather have you pumped on synthetics that can make fat profits from.
And so little Johnny gets caight with a joint 3 times and spends hos life in jail. What a country!

Like all attempts to legislate morality, it profits by the police state mentality that is breed into the masses. "You need us to make personal moral decisions for you, and if you do not agree I will punish you.", says the Deceptive Voice of Security from "Anti-moral" Behavior.
Also the government profits by being able to have scapegoats for the failed policies that it causes. "Oh, they smoke pot that is the reason that they are dumb",says the lazy School Teacher. Of course it has nothing to do with the lack of ability of the teachers or the lack of funds--No, it MUST be the weed.
And so on it goes.............

well the way i see it is that if the government is involved in the sales of marijuana(like under the table) then they would be getting some profit! but other then that i believe that they should legalize it! one cause it would calm down a lot of controversy between people. and the government would get there cut also! that is just my opion.

Primarily -- it's the drug companies that are profitting, because they can sell pharmaceuticals that duplicate many of the effects for far more profit than they would get if pot were legal.
And the drug companies have lobbyists, who ensure the Congress continues to vote in the best interest of the corporations.
