I am having problems with my van I can't afford another bill right now if the catalytic is bad will it cause my van to stall out on me when I am driving it. I just shuts its selfoff and starts right back up again.

Its possible, if its blocked. One way to check - look underneath at it after youve driven it - if its cherry red - then most likely its plugged - it shouldnt heat up that much.

A bad catalytic converter will act as a "plug" in the exhaust pipe.

You will notice a sluggish acceleration, your vehicle will be "constipated"

stalling would not be a typical symptom but a heavily plugged exhaust will do it.

Can it? Yes, technicaly it could.
Is it likely the cause of your van stalling? No.

I'd look into more likely causes ie; Fuel filter plugged, EGR valve, fuel pump, electrical/electronic fault.

Get a tuneup first and see if that helps. It probably needs one anyway....?

If it is completely clogged, then yes it will stall your car. It will build up enough back pressure to where exhaust gasses can not escape.
