looking at the dell xps 1330 and wondering if there is a significant difference between the core2duo 2mb/1.8ghz/800FSB processor and the core2duo 4mb/2.0ghz/800FSB processor as to jump up in processor is an extra $200. Also the xps comes standard with the uxga ultrasharp screen but you can upgrade for $150 more to the LED screen. the webcam goes down from 2.0mp to 0.3mp but it is supposed to be much lighter and more power efficient. any thoughts.....

the processor isnt as critical in a laptop in most cases becoz most people dont run processor intensive multitasking on a laptop ... if u find urself waiting for an hour for ur machine to use programs u use then get the faster processor .. otherwise u dont need it ... the better screens are always worth extra money coz thats what ur looking at ... personal opinion .. and the webcam i wouldnt even consider as important myself ..

There will be a good difference between the two processors, but not enough to warrant an additional $200 in my opinion.

Having twice the cache memory and a faster clock speed will translate into it being about 20-30% faster than the other processor. Unless you are Gaming, doing high-end video editing or 3-D rendering you probably wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference.

As far as the Upgrade to the LED screen... If you care about battery life and overall weight, then spend the extra money on the LED screen. There will be really no difference in image quality between the two, but an LED backlight array will last a lot longer than the standard CCFL backlight that most Laptops use.

It depends on what is important to you whether those differences are significant. For example: the difference between 2mb/1.8 and 4mb/2.0 might make the difference between running your favorite software package with good response time and great response time.

For internet, downloading, office apps, MP3 and DVD movies, performance difference is hardly noticeable. If you are a road warrior, light weight and long battery life should be a top concern.

Hi. In my experience, the cutting edge is the bleeding edge. I would opt for the less expensive CPU (unless you are a hard core gamer) because they will BOTH be obsolete in 18 months anyway!
