If purchasing an external drive is an option for you . You can mirror copy your existing hard drive to it and then add partitions to the external drive for storage. All your programs will work. The software for mirror copy comes with the hard drive free. Anytime you make back ups run av and as first, to make sure spyware and virus's arent copied to it !

if no it has a hidden parttion on the hard drive with all the apps saved on it.
sounds like your about to clean your hard drive ?

my acer burnt two dvd's the first time i started it and it has a hidden parttion that i can use to recover my os(D2D recovery) i just hold down Alt+F10 a the start of boot and then i get a repair or clean install.

Hi. Get a flash drive large enough to hold all that you want backed up. Then copy the files you want to the drive.

Edit: dze is correct. You should also save your registry by using 'Export' to the drive as well. Then if you crash, reload the registry by using 'Import'. Great point dze!
