What is the cause for GM striking? Why do they even stand outside with signs? Do they think we can do anything about it.

GM hasn't gone on strike. The United Auto Workers, which is the union that embodies almost all of GM's blue-collar workers, has gone on strike. They have gone on strike because they want better pay, better benefits, and job security. Well, if they gave a crap about their work and built cars worth a darn, maybe they wouldn't have to worry about their job security. Basically, they're a bunch of hypocrites. They accuse management of corporate greed, yet they expect to be paid four times the minimum wage for a job that doesn't even require a high school education. There are no special skills or training needed to be a line worker for the UAW, yet they think they're entitled to a king's ransom. If labor unions were outlawed tomorrow, GM could replace every union employee within 90 days with people who would work for a lot less money, do a better job, and would be thankful that they HAD a job. I don't want to see an end to the Big Three because I live in Michigan and things here are bad enough already, but one good thing that would come from the demise of the American auto industry is these whiny-@$$ed slugs would be on the unemployment lines where they belong.

Because there not happy with the job they filled out job applications for. If they are now unhappy with the job they should find a job that pays more and has better benefits. They know they can't do that. Then you got some mafia type union punks pushing workers to strike. I think GM should tell the union to find better jobs for their members and hire new people. They would fill the jobs real fast. It would take a few months to train the new people. That's probably just a little longer then the strikers would have been out. How much money should GM employees get to build a car that falls apart in a year? I'll take one of the jobs. I learn real fast.

GM is not striking. The union workers who labor to make the cars and their parts are.
They are striking b/c the (UAW) Union and GM have not come to an agreement regarding the terms of health insurance, retirement benefits and job security for the employees.

I think they are standing outside to let people know that they are trying to stand up for what they believe. They know we cannot do much about it on the contract side...but we as consumers could always stop buying GM cars to make a statement in support of their efforts.
I guess by giving us a visual, they remind us that everyone deserves fair treatment.
