In my understanding - yes, these people are in danger. But what country would qualify this issue as “refugee” status worthy? we are not equal in our own country...

BTW, I am sick and tired of hearing about this guy. I will cash out my lifetime savings and drop 100,000 rainbow flags on Iran, damn it!

It's a good question. I have no idea which country would allow for political asylum based on sexual orientation, but I'm guessing Holland. This I will look in to as I've nothing better to do at the moment.

Found it:

Since April 1993 the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has recognized in several Advisory Opinions that gays and lesbians qualify as members of a "particular social group" for the purposes of the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. In its publication "Protecting Refugees," the UNHCR states: "Homosexuals may be eligible for refugee status on the basis of persecution because of their membership of a particular social group. It is the policy of the UNHCR that persons facing attack, inhuman treatment, or serious discrimination because of their homosexuality, and whose governments are unable or unwilling to protect them, should be recognized as refugees." (UNHCR/PI/Q&A-UK1.PM5/Feb. 1996)

The European Union may grant political asylum ....as agreed in the U.N. I doubt the U.S would comply with the UN declaration.

I live in a country where homosexuality is still not decriminalized, let alone found acceptance in the society. I have seen some of my gay friends leave for gay-friendly countries, citing seeking refuge as their criterion for migration. Sometimes I feel it is a little unfair, as those with lesser means cannot escape the living hell it can be staying in a gay-unfriendly country. I hope my country realises how far behind we are when it comes to laws relating to homosexuality, while in all other fields we have made progress. What the heck, I will take on your idea, maybe drop a few rainbow flags at my country's parliament too so they can change the outdated laws.

I know that gay men and women of Iraq are aloud in some European countries on a refugee status. I'm not sure about Iran, I would assume it would be the same.

Yeah a giant rainbow flag with tons of sparkle glitter.

I know we don't offer it. And what a travesty of justice, eh? Thanks for mentioning it. And I don't know of any other country who does offer it. Ugh.
