i do see the potential of earnings if the company gets back on track.however if it went bust or if it was sold to another company they may make or lose money which is a gamble. can somebody explain? the only reason i can see is that this banks continue to see a potential in northern rock that others dont.

Well for one thing they know the true situation, and that its not as bad as the general public thing and on the brink of collapsing, they are in the same situation themselves.

It may also be a pre emptive strike for a takeover, if they buy enough shares they could have enough clout to make the deal swing in their favour, and could be a way to save them money on the take over price.

Just heard NR is suspending payment of the interim Dividend (14p) whilst 'in talks' with (I assume) potential buyers

Since I would guess that the Dividend is only what's been holding the shares up, I expect them to collapse tomorrow ..
