the tv show Watchdog rated Virgin as the worst broadband provider (from a viewers vote) and BT as the best. I use BT, its ok, a bit slow at times though.

I have got there broadband and it's very good, for £9 a month and I pay £11 for the phone and I have just received a letter, to say that they are putting the prices up for the phone calls.

Im on virgin at the moment, the 8mb bundle. Speedwise It's ok, slow at 8pm but i suspect everyones in the uk is and merrily fast enough througout the rest of the day.
The biggest draw back i think is that their technical help line costs £1 to connect to and £0.25/minute thereafter and I suspect they will keep you hanging on. The do offer free technical help over the internet, but as most people problems with the internet leave them unable to connect its a bit pointless, and they take 24h to reply to emailed queeries.
I've had a few problems with it; it took a while to get an initial connection, was given a date that proved to be far too optomistic and each time i rang the customer services (an 0870 or 0845 number) so not a freephone number but one virgin make a tidy profit out of, i got told to wait another 24h.
Just recently internet connection has stopped, i dont know why as i am away at work but the mrs at home would not have played with the setting (she doesnt know how) and im not entirely certain its the fault of the computer as it seems to be intermitant. we shall see when i get back home in a couple of weeks...
if you can find someone else for the same price that doesnt try and charge you for customer service or techy help then i would go with them, dont think i will be staying with them when my contract ends early next year.
oh, and for alternative geographic numbers instead of 0847/0870 numbers and the new 0906 etc which cost a fortune use:

If your talking about virgin media cable broadband, Then yes there are better providers out there eg unlimited 2mb from virgin media = £18.00 a month when you can get 8mb unlimited from tiscal for the same price. But with virgin you get free technical support for both pc and mac and any faults are fixed for free and because its cable the speed dosnt get slower the further you live from the exchange and the speeds are up to 20mb.
2mb = £18
4mb = £24
20mb = £37
If your talking about virign adsl then i dont know as i have never had adsl from virgin
