I had two generic ink cartridges that didn't work, (kept getting error messages) so I bought and installed two name brand, then the next morning decided to try the generics again, worked that time. I put the tape back on the name brand cartridges and sealed them in the foil bags, will that save them till I need them?

If your cartridge is a tri-color, printhead model....then don't do it. The tape allows the different colors to blend and those bastardized colors can bleed back up through the printhead, discoloring the ink inside.

Black printhead model is ok (obviously, no colors to cross-contaminate)

If your printer has individual color tanks (like Epson, Canon or Brother), not a problem.

You bet! We even have a photo cartridge that we use only occasionally (it fits in the black slot, when we need it, then comes out, leaving the black in one slot and the tri-color in the other...weird, huh?) Anyway, one cartridge is always sitting in the desk drawer with a piece of tape on it...

Why not just put them in a plastic ziploc bag.
