The statistics seem to support that theory.

The likely explanation is that the child lacked a strong male role model to teach him right from wrong and to "be a man" (e.g.; work hard, buck up, live up to your responsibilities).

Today, there are so many definitions of what constitutes a "family," that the classic tradition of mom, dad, kids, pet is no longer common. It is common place to see single parents, particularly moms, leading a healthy household without a father. No, I don't believe this stereotype holds truth anymore, if ever. I've seen too many product children of single parent homes, without a father, grow up to be law-abiding citizens.

HELL NO!! I have 2 brothers and a sister and we grew up without a father. My brother and i are in college and my youngest brother is a senior in high school and headed to college. We have a very strong mother and we didn't need a father. Mothers can sometimes be just as good as the fathers can.

I would say so. I remember a news article about elephants running rampant, wild crazy. They studied it and found that the herd with an older male elephant had well behaved younger males. But the herds with no older males--that's where the wild child elephants came from. I think this applies to people, too. It doesn't have to be a dad--any older male role model will do.

The choice of breaking a law does not have very much to do with a father figure. There are plenty of criminals who had fathers living in the home.

I think so! I believe that it is the same as no mother. I think they feel they are lacking something, and they have resentment towards others.
