My husband rides, but he goes to work early in the morning before rush hour. He says he doesn't like to ride home because its congested. When I go to work, and come home it is peak hour. People around here drive like they're in a Nascar race, rubbins racin' and all. I've deciced I might only ride to work on the weekends. How do you guys feel about it? Do you ride in the afternoon frenzy on a regular basis?

I used to ride to work every day except when it rained (which is seldom here)...nothing like instant acceleration to get you out of a tight spot in a hurry. But now it's just too many cars...Now I just ride for fun.

Yep, every day.
Sun, rain, snow.....
It's a short commute. Only 7 1/2 miles.
Working second shift in a relatively small town, there isn't that much of a crush during "rush hour". It's more like a 1/2 hour, if that. The worst part is that school lets out just before then, and there's this crossing guard who likes to run (literally) into traffic. Going home is much easier. I leave 15 - 20 minutes after everyone else. It's almost like having the road to myself.

I live in Colorado, and unless there is actual SNOW on the pavement (or it's below 20 degrees) I ride to work. I tend to go in early and leave early (6:30 - 3:30) instead of catching the traffic both ways. Sometimes I get stuck behind some cellphone user's pileup and have to putt along in 1st gear like everyone else, but I always try to leave myself an "out" in case someone is a complete idiot (of which there are too many).

Remember that what you lack in caged protection you make up for in speed and agility. Those are YOUR tools, so use them properly to stay safe.

I ride to work most days. I leave for work after the main rush hour crush, and I leave from work... well... hey, sometimes I'm lucky and sometimes I'm not. Greater Pasadena to Burbank, California, along the 134 and 5 freeways.

California drivers are generally good, but if I had to go through downtown Los Angeles, I would not be on a motorcycle.

Yes. Every day. Here in FL I just have to worry about the evening thunderstorms. The traffic I can handle . OH and I pack a rain coat when the weather says up to about 60% chance of rain. Upwards of 70% I take the pickup.

i ride to work every once in awhile. my wife and i work at the same place so i sometimes place my suit, dress shirt, tie, socks, shoes and briefcase in her car then ride in and get changed in my office. i would do that only on days that i know i don't have appointments since the humidity doesn't exactly have me smelling like roses when i ride the 38 miles to the office. traffic is not a problem in the rural area that i work but the bugs sometimes are.

also, i just had a buddy die this past weekend. he struck a deer 4 weeks ago on his ride to work. he busted one leg below the knee and had a nice gash on his forehead where the buck's antlers got him. he was doing ok but blood clots caught up with him.

Sitting in traffic is better on a bike then in a car anyday. I drive to work on a crowded interstate almost every day (during riding season). Besides, driving in rush hour traffic can be just as exilirating as the twisties.

I feel the same way about traffic. If I can't get out early enough, I take the car. I average riding to work about two days a week when it's warm enough.

Around here, if I take off too early I have to worry about deer. I'd rather take my chances with the traffic - it is more predictable!

Since I live and work on the outskirts, I ride most every day.

I ride every day. You just have to be more careful in the afternoons during peak traffic. Drive like you are invisible.
