GBS - Group B Strep or Beta Strep

http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/groupbstrep/a/aa101397.htm

It's a natural bacteria that some people have and some do not. men and woman can both have it.

chances are you won't pass it to your baby, the only way it could be is if he gets it from birth, and they antibiotics are given in an IV as a preventative measure.

I have been a MA in the OBGYN field for 6 years. GBS is positive in approximately 35-40% of women-we carry it naturally in our bodies( I am positive) and is not harmful unless it is passed to the baby and then the baby could get sick. The fact that your OBGYN tested for this means that you have a great Doctor who wants you and your baby to both be healthy. They will give you an antibiotic in labor to prevent this from passing to baby and your new little one will be born healthy and happy! No need to worry. It's always a little scary to get told by your doctor that you have something when you don't understand what that is. Good luck with your last few weeks!

Hey it's group B strep. Modern medicine hast made this manageable. In fact, my test results had not came back yet when I had my son but we had the antibioyics just in case. We are fine now as is my neice who was born to my gbs positive SIL.
